Very soon, Gregg and I will begin planning the 2015 Meet in Red Wing. (August 12-16)
I am always open to feedback, constructive & critical.
Its your club, what do you want to see?
Registration will open sometime over late Winter/Early Spring. We have some things to work out regarding logistics this year, so I don't want to start collecting registration fees until we're ready.
We're trying to bring the group meal back (Jim B. has a line on a hog roast guy), so we're working on that.
We're looking at ways to get additional space at the campground for next year, but nothing we're ready to talk about. (We always have the option of moving the entire camping area to the entrance road, leaving the central area as the 'group' area.)
What else, What do YOU want to see in the 2015 Meet?
2015 for our family will involve some big changes, my son is learning to fly and heading to UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) school in the Fall @Lewis University, my daughter is driving now and playing volleyball. Nikki and I are still plugging away working paying the bills etc.
I wish all of you the best in the year to come & hope to see many of you at the Iowa & MN meets this summer!

A group meal or vendor supplied meal sounds like a good idea. When on vacation I try to relax, visit, and have fun, so time gained by not cooking is a plus to me. Bonfire hotdogs at the sand pit for lunch sounds doable. Last years meet when everyone had some extras to share was a nice touch. OK enough about food. Camping area was tight, but it worked, maybe a basic campsite layout? Overall, I would rather cruise the boat or have my toes in the sand than be around the campsite. I like the idea of a whiteboard at the camp to let others that show up where we are or let folks know what is planned for the day. I may have a class a purchased before Rathbun, so I would be curious if a camping spot near the group would be available. Thank you Doran for all the efforts you expend.

This net meet will be my family and I first meet, what has been turnout numbers for last few meets avg...? I think I like the idea about large group area as my kids like to run. Why not have fridge use donated and everyone bring an extra bulk pack or few of dogs, beans n burgs and buns. I will donate time as grill man and bring my big grill/smoker sum extra burg, dog, bean, shoulders, maybe a hog, bun and big bean pot or two. And I'll be happy to share a beer with many a fine folks! Tn...

On Sat. there will be about 100 people.
We are working on a group meal for Sat.
We are also working on more room for camping.

Last year at Rathbun, we went to the resort for lunch and had a great time. Anyone from the MN/WI area know of a decent place(s) to eat on the river that we could slip in/out? It would make for a nice cruise. Maybe not appropriate for the group meal issue due to transportaion issues, but I could certainly haul a few extra folks, the CVZ is pretty comfy with six on board.

I think for this year we are trying to make that more of a possibility . If we go north towards the st croix there are many more options such as Muddy waters in Precott, Afton house in Afton, Hudson also has public docks opening up many places in that area, same story for Stillwater.
More details to come but great idea!

I would luv to see Hudson railroad bridge from the water. As I understand it our new camping area is closer?

We're above the lock and dam, parallel to the sand pile.

Do you mean the swing bridge (Hudson) or are you thinking of the tall high railroad bridge (Stillwater) that there have been pics of?

Arcola high bridge & Hudson swing bridge.
Red is Hudson bridge.
Blue is Arcola bridge.

I think he's talking about the one over the MN river by Valleyfair... that's the only swing bridge i can think of....
-
Nope the one on the st. croix at Hudson. Its a U.P. line and he worked with the signal controls on it.

Other than the one on the St. Croix in Hudson, there are actually two more still in use in St. Paul. One on each side of downtown. There was one in Inver Grove Heights too but closed over 10 years ago. They took the swinging part of that one out and the rest of it is a park now.

"There was one in Inver Grove Heights too but closed over 10 years ago"
that was such a cool bridge, over/under had 1 lane for automobile traffic, cost a dollar to use it back then.
i crossed there frequently when i worked at west publishing in Eagan.
i digress...
back to the meet, lots of great ideas here, i look forward to burning lots of gas this year, great options for longer runs.
my 2 cents on the Saturday run, the run to kinni would be doable for the group (the run from prescot to kinni would not differ too much from the open part of peppin)
i do think it would be good to have the Saturday run details set before the meet, and the parade in Prescott would be cool.
would be nice if we could promote it.
i guess to work out the details we are gonna have to make MANY runs from kinni to TI early this year.

" i guess to work out the details we are gonna have to make MANY runs from kinni to TI early this year."
We all have done this run many times, we'll have to time it out and see exactly how long it would take to make the runs from the different locals.
Don't think we'll have any problems finding volunteers for this job ...LOL
" and the parade in Prescott would be cool. "
We could call the run through Prescott's no wake zone our parade !

Sounds like a plan to me

We actually have a number or bridges in the mnpls area, but I deal with signal systems and somehow came to be my domain of working controllers with moving spans. The Hudson swing bridge is one the I spent the better part of a week on. Only knew the glastron folks from Rathbun meet at that point, or I would have looked up a few folks. Nice area really. Sounds like we will have plenty to do and see. Looking forward to it.
