Vanson Trailer Bunks - 1979 CVX 16 SS
« on: April 12, 2021, 11:47:36 AM »
Hey everyone, I'm about to tackle the bunks and rollers on my OG Vanson trailer.

It has 2x4 wood n it now (wasted of course). My gut (and the shaper of the hull) says it should have 2x6 bunks. Am I correct?

Also, what are the lengths of the bunks as there are 2 lengths on the trailer. I'm not sure I can trust the bunks on there.

Also, how about the rollers? Just basic rollers? I was thinking about v rollers for the middle.

Any and all insight would be great!

Looks like Mark has a good set up for a four bunk trailer (white trailer)

Mine is a two bunk Karavan trailer (black trailer)
Make sure the bunks extend out past transom by a inch or so to help support weight.
You can see spacing in last picture, maybe three to four inches out from inner chine.

Should I be able top prop the front of the boat up with a single jack stand and support eh rear with 2 jack stands to do my bunk replacement?

If so, where should I put the jack stands?

Yeah I do it that way all the time even on bigger boat than that, I have a 4 x 6 block that I cut a V in, I put that on the keel and jack it up with a floor jack. And then I put one jackstand on each side in the back just inside of the chine.

I was going to lift my trailer, then jack stand the front and lower the front of the trailer, the jack up the rear. Or do rear then front so its more stable.

I always do the back first just because it’s more stable like you said.
My goal is usually to get the trailer out from under the boat so I end up jacking up the front moving the trailer setting it back down and moving the jack so on and so forth till I can get the trailer out.

Thats good advice, however Im going to go with 2x6 bunks for all 4, so ill need it under to line them up properly.

Well we got them done, but didn't have enough carpet. Ill redo the outer bunks later and the fender board...

Nice excuse to put the boat around puddingstone reservoir in San Dimas.
