Moral Quandry
« on: September 17, 2011, 07:05:33 PM »
Considering my 2yr free replacement batteries seem to last just slightly over two years. The most recent one croaking 2 days past the warranty period. Naturally I wound up paying full price for replacement(s).

Would it be unethical to euthanize, by way of shorting out, a 2yr battery at say 23 1/2 months as opposed to it inevitably dieing a horrible death a short time later?

Please help.

Get yourself a BatteryMINDer. It desulfates your batteries and maintains them. My boat battery is going on 6 years old and 2 years ago I thought it was done until I used this little contraption on it over the winter. When spring came my battery was like new again and it's still cranking. Leave the BatteryMINDer connected to the battery from a week to a couple of months and you'll have a refreshed battery, or connect it whenever you're not using it. If you're battery isn't holding a charge anymore then you have to charge it up "hot" with an industrial charger to get the battery over 11 volts for the BatteryMINDer to start doing its thing. If there's a bad or shorted cell in the battery then there's not much you can do with it except use it for an anchor or trim ballast.

Heck no. Kill that puppy and get the replacement. I just had to install a battery in my girlfriend's car. Frickin' $97 for the battery but luckily it had a couple of months left on the warranty. All they do is recycle them and sell it back to you at some other time.

I like that battery tender mentioned. I may have to get one of those for my brother for Christmas for his show car. I'd like to have one for my rider as well.
