Tilt cylinder rebuild
« on: November 08, 2013, 12:18:25 PM »
Starting to paint the lower unit, mid section, steering bracket and trim assembly. Had trim assembly flat on work bench for about a week and noticed the tilt cylinder is leaking from the top seal.

Had a fairly easy go of getting the screw top off. Put a little heat on the cylinder with the heat gun and about 10 hits with a hammer and punch got things moving. Finished removal with a pin wrench. Now just need to order a seal kit.

Received the tilt cylinder seal kit today and just finished putting it back together. All new trim fluid and she purrs like a kitten. Air bled out and she's ready for some paint this weekend. New Arco trim motor is quite as a mouse.

The Arco power trim pump on my 1974 115 HP Mercury was much louder than the original Quicksilver pump.

Have you ever heard a Yamaha trim from the early 90's? My neighbor has a 55 hp from 93 or 96. It has a high pitched whine. A guy I work with has a 90 from the same year span and it does the same thing. Loud.

I had a '91 yamaha on an SSV.  I don't recall the trim being any louder than what's on my Mercury now.
