Went straight at 150. Not many turns on a drag strip.

Nobody can be that good RP.

Yeah Jerry, but could you run the 1/4 in under 9 seconds?

My buddy Dave has a new SS that's purty badazz. Tell ya what, it's essentially a Corvette in Camaro clothing.

I can barely afford one car these days, much less a race car. Mebbe not as fast but my interior's nicer & I got AC ...

edit. Extra credit to the first person who knows what COPO means.

Thank you V153

Oh, Jerry. I'm sure one day one of us will find something you can't find fault with. Some of these COPO's are running 8.84 with the 427 motor. I seriously doubt that old Camaro ever saw those numbers. I'm sure it was fast for it's time.

I guess a 700 hp / 718 ft. lb torque CTSv wagon just doesn't have enough power for you either. Sure would haul a Glastron though. First one to the launch wins.

538 Cu in. around 1000 Hp mid 8s at 150 mph. in 1971.  I like the new Camaro if ya have a fat checkbook. It's 40 years later and technology has changed a lot. I still like something I built myself better.

There is a sense of accomplishment in that...probably why we all like redoing our boats.

I'm not really a fan.  It sounds ridiculous.  To me, anyway.  I prefer the stealthy stuff … something that sits and idles and doesn't look sinister, until you open it up and everyone watching feels their jaw hit the floor because it was so unexpected.  I had a friend in Texas with a 1993 Mazda RX7 that would consistently run a 4.2 0-60 time.  He claimed to hit 3.9 a few times.  He had nice chrome rims, and a low exhaust (but not loud) … it was a sleeper.  Personally, I remember his 60-100 feeling like you were being sucked through the seat back into the rear.  I wasn't interested much in the speed demon stuff, I was much more interested in the audio. He burned up that rotary in about a year and replaced with a 300ZX.

It's not a new thing. Yenko Chevrolet made Camaros and Novas in the 60s. Carol Shelby had Mustangs. If you have money it's always been available. I had friends that had a 68 Chevelle 427 special edition from the factory  that was only sold to established drag racers.

I was there (Norwalk Ohio) when Brent Rau (Minnesota boy!) ran a 6.98 ET 199 MPH 1/4 mile in a 4 cylinder Mitsubishi Eclipse Pro Outlaw RWD.  He later bettered the time and MPH at the Brainard Intl. Raceway;

I didn't have much respect or interest in the "import racers" until I had the opportunity to watch them in person as part of the last job I had, but you gotta admit that's a flyin' four banger!  Kinda miss the smell of racing gas and burning rubber to be honest.  Ah, the good ole days........ ;D

I love cars too. Boats are a bit cheaper. Prices on the old muscle cars are just out of reach for the average Joe unless its a basket case.
427 in a Camaro and it fits in there like it belongs. Love it.

Yeah some'a those rice burner drag cars are purty amazing.

I had a '84 300ZX turbo 50th Anniv edition. Wish I hadn't sold it. Only reason I did is cuz the clutch was on it's way out & I didn't feel like disassembling the entire vehicle to replace it. Borla exhaust, some intake & throttle body mods, lil suspension work, etc. It's been awhile but I think we were runnin 12 or 13lb or so of boost. It was very very quick, and reliable. I drove that car daily for a lil over two years.

Only problem I ever had was accidently locking the late great Uzirat cat in one night. Thank god he didn't pee or poop, but boy he did a number on the inner door panels trying to claw his way out. Actually tried to dig through the speakers. Lil cser musta been at it all night ... But I digress.
