It's the little things...
« on: April 20, 2016, 07:58:21 PM »
Well, my Fellow Glastron enthusiasts, it's been a tedious spring here in Two Harbors, MN.

April 6th. It wasn't the last time it looked like this either. Hoping we're done with this nonsense.

Finally warmed up a bit and I've been busy working to get ready for ice-out. The list of projects is never-ending. The older I get, the more I realize that's just life.

Ordered up some new vinyl decals from doityourselflettering.com. They weren't cheap, but it's a huge visual improvement over the old yucky mailbox numbers.

I know...big project. But, it's the little things.

Before:

AFTER:

No worries...I got new tabs on there too. Just took the pic before I put that ugly orange 18 on there  ;)

Also did some buffing and polishing. I had some oxidizing to tackle. Two stage buff with a foam pad, nothing but 3M...=$$$. But worth it. You really do get what you pay for. You know, My $10K pickup hasn't seen a coat of was in the last five years, but my $2K boat has about 4 coats!  ::) :P :D

Before:

AFTER:

Yes, I know...I should have taken one with the cover hiked up but I forgot and I already snugged it back down.

I also updated the stereo so I have bluetooth capabilities. Gotta have my tunes.
I've got some more parts on the way for the weekend, so IF (and that's a big IF) it doesn't rain/sleet/SNOW, I'll have more projects to complete. If only she fit in the garage.

What are you tackling this spring?

I feel your pain with the weather, I'm in the same boat you're in. Look at my thread as proof. http://forum.cgoamn.com/index.php?topic=6506.0

Those new numbers really look sharp! It won't be long and you'll be on the water again.
If you had a trailer with a swing away tongue would the boat fit in the garage then?

It might. I'm thinking about one of those tarp shelters for this summer, the garage is tiny and the motorcycle needs somewhere to live too.

You better knock on wood! We'll probably get some on Sunday. Little to no accumulation, but still....enough.

I get a chuckle, seeing very expensive boats with mail box numbers on the sides ...
Your new ones look great and the orange 2018 stickers aren't as bad as the green ones from 2016.
Mine were hand painted forty years ago and aren't looking the best, but not bad enough to replace.

We have seen 3M products work some magic on a few Glastron / Carlson's ... Good stuff !

Hope to see some "On the water pictures" from you !

I put on a new pickup for the speedo, winch strap, and fixed my dash lights too....but no pics of that and still no pics of the new radio, which did NOT have Bluetooth like I was told. I should have known, the kid I bought it from was kind of a goober. Oh well. Only $40 and still and improvement. At least I can run an aux cord now.

Seats are in my basement where I will clean them tomrrow. One of them never folded quite right, and is disassembled. Whoever did it last put one side back to ether backwards...and bent the crap out of it so trip to True Value is in my future tomorrow.

LOL Very cleaver. You gotta do what you gotta do.
Summer is even shorter "up north" than it is for us down here. Beautiful area though.
Boat numbers look great. It is the details that make a difference. Your interior looks to be in very nice shape.

It's in very good shape. I was very pleasantly surprised, it's probably the cleanest original 27 year old boat I've ever seen.

Boat looks great .......I like the style of those letters......Snow?  I think I remember reading once that there is only one month here in Minnesota that it has not snowed and there have been claims that it snowed in that one too......Keep your shovel handy and keep up the good work.

Good move on the new registration numbers, those mailbox things would have been off the boat 5 minutes after I got it home. The new ones look great BTW. And absolutely it's all I'm the little things!

Quick update...been busy. Spent all week fixing and cleaning seats. Reinstalled on Saturday.

Need a new bilge. Old one is fried solid.

Think I'm going to put a two battery bank in with an on board charger. I'd like to be able to sit for hours and listen to tunes with the lights on and not worry, but my measly 6 amp output from the Johnny isn't going to cut it. I think I'd be smart to wire in a smart charger...plug n play.

Few other small details...LED bulbs needed for nav and dash lights (all working). Spent 3 or 4 hours on Sunday degreasing, cleaning, and waxing the motor and splash well. The level of anality is reaching some new heights.

Finally remembered to take a photo of the new stereo. And of course, obligatory garage beers (insert shameless local brewery plug here).

Trailer still needs a spare tire and bearing buddy's. Did a reseal and repack last fall.

Keep plugging away! Camper is out of storage now so time crunch is on, I have things to do there as well.

No water time yet, but the weather is above 50 now so it's coming.

Carry a "Buddy Box" with you if your woried about sitting and draining the battery. Cheap insurance, just top off the charge every month or so and throw it under a seat in the boat for peace of mind.
