Nice Trip Up North!
« on: July 11, 2016, 11:48:57 PM »
Just got back from a week long trip to N. MN.  (Boot Lake to be exact)  Barfly ran great!!!

I should have taken more photos of the boat, but we just enjoyed it!  I did some prop testing and the 3.0L loved the Gil Six Gun 21p prop.  Well, until I chewed it up.  The Piranha 4 Blade 20p did fine, but the Six Gun allowed the engine to turn rpms quickly when getting my daughter up on her wakeboard.    It did some heavy duty towing battle tubing & wakeboarding as well.  It only had issues when I did full throttle turns.  The Piranha never let go, but with the Six Gun, I had to trim down just a hair for it to dig back in.

The only excitement I had was realizing that I'd never fixed the taillights when I pulled the boat out of my Mom's garage...a quick trip to Walmart and some wiring supplies and it was all working in under an hour.  The only real downside to the boat is the trailer.  It really needs the boat taken off it and a trailer refurb.

I believe I have the gas smell from the bow resolved, the vent line was pinched, and I tightened down the filler fill hose with a correctly sized gas cap.  Just need to seal it up and tighten the bow filler down and I think it'll be all set!  Is anyone else's tank vent completely buried in the flotation foam?

A couple photos:

Yeah, Rathbun looked to be great!

No, my wife (Nikki) was there filming.  Since the Metric's seats don't swivel, she generally moved to the bench seat to film & spot Rissa.  Andy was working so he wasn't able to go this year...but he also spent 2 weeks at Myrtle Beach with his buddies in June, so he's had his fun.  (He's got college expenses to pay for...)

BTW...hoping to get back to the 3.7L Mercruiser this fall.

The Metric is a bit of a double edged sword...on the one hand, very easy to store, tow & move about.  On the other hand...its too small to have more than really 3 people in.  Right now, its a great boat for us.  At some point in the future, we're going to have to move up to a larger boat.

She (and I) want a wakeboard/ski boat with a v-drive and wrap around seating.  Barfly would be a great fun little boat to have to play with as well.

Some other neat options, I never saw a tower integrated with a Bimini before.  Hate to say it, but I'm a fan of blue/white.

Something like the bottom one is a possibility.  I have inquired (twice) now about the V-212 up in Pelican Rapids, but the guy won't send me any more pictures of the interior.  It has the interior room, an (ugly) tower, and a nice V8...in addition to the soft floor.  The steps & walk through would be awesome.

OB's (like the ski machine) give my wife headaches and there's not much interior room.

Yep.  This is all just talk at this point...but wasn't there an anniversary edition 22 ft. Glastron in White/Orange a few years back?

Douglas one is a closed bow, so that's a non-starter.  Really want something bigger that we can have us 4 on, plus friends & family on.

Right now though, I'm just going to keep what I have...need the rest of life to settle down after the house move, a kid to move back to college, the other one's HS VB schedule will be jammed packed starting mid-August.  So a nice reliable boat is just fine (which I have) for now.

Eventually, I'd like something like this...only for 1/2 the price, lol!
