River run before red wing ?
any week day folks out there ?
forecast looks good for tomorrow, Friday and the weekend.
-
What were you thinking about tomorrow?
Would have to check on the weekend with my wife but would like to get out again.
-
We were there and I don't know how we missed you guys last sat. But we go just about every weekend and will be there again as long as the weather holds. so we'll try again on Saturday.
-
i'm easy...
could prob go all over the st croix on a weekday.
early afternoon ? (i should prob show up for a couple hours at work ;) )
-
Do not get off of work until 3pm most likely the earliest i could show would be 4pm.
Where are you thinking of dropping in at.
GT150-cv23 We looked long and hard for you started at St Croix Bluffs park cruised north to beer can island then lunch at Hudson then all the way down to Red Wing lock and Dam.
-
I have Thursday off from work. St. Croix Bluffs? Have to check with the wife first though.

Their ramp was horriable. I bent some brackets and Scott scraped his trailer up pretty bad.
-
I would like to get out some more not sure on the day though I am going out now to install my 3rd lower for the season
-
Right now not a big fan of St Croix Bluffs ramp.
Not sure what happened to the river but the water level is low making the ramp not friendly to the lower trailers.
-
If all goes well tomorrow, I might be able to join you. St. Croix would be nice but I'd be looking for a free ramp. If I put in at Stillwater, might take too long and too much gas to get to Hudson but I really don't know.
-
The ramp in Hudson is only like 10 bucks...
Stillwaters close for me too, I've never been To that ramp
-
Thanks for the information on the St Croix Bluffs ramp. What a shame for such a beatiful park, and after I paid $25 for a season ticket. The Hastings Mississippi River ramp was supposed to have been redone and is free. Has anyone used it recently? I work Wednesday but have Thursday off.
-
Still says rain for Thursday
:(
-
I still haven't figured out if I just had a bad fuel sender and ran out of gas or not, but if I can get her back up and running I'd love to meet up with you guys. Will have to check with the wife though!
-
i can see blue sky up here in shoreview...
Ross... are you talking about St Croix boom site ?
looks nice on satellite, 9 mi to Hudson so i spose it would take a half hour or so to get there.
-
9 miles and two "No Wake" zones ...
-
thats $10 worth of gas...
how about 4:00 or so in Hudson.
-
What day are we talking again? Today? Thursday?
I got cars to wreck Friday and Saturday.
-
today... spose to rain tomorrow
Jason, where are the demo's ?
i am also open to an outing on Saturday, minnesota / ft snelling ?, i would like to go through the locks to mpls.
-
I believe it is the Boom Site, yes
Might have to wait until the weekend but the St.Croix can be nuts then.

too much traffic on the weekend there for me, but it is the place to beach and hang out.

Don't look like there's much left of that silver one.
-
Harriet looks ready.

We are launching/meeting Ross in Hudson around 4. Jeff is coming up from Hastings , we're meeting Jeff at Kinnickinnic state park
-
Another great night on the water (even though not as planned)
Jeff was helping Ross work on a fuel starvation issue, then the tow from Kinnickinnic, Jason took over tow duty about half way back.

Still the same issue huh Ross?
-
Too bad Ross I was crossing my fingers for you. :-[
-
Is that first pic of my boat actually running? A rare sighting.
Yes pretty much the same issue continues after my Racor filter replacement, carb filter cleaning, new tank relining and new fuel line installed.
My plan is now to take that small glass filter out. I shouldn't need it and it may be a restriction although it is SO inconsistent, I don't think its that but I shouldn't need it anymore. Ordered an electronic fuel pump today next day air and should have that tomorrow.
The one thing we thought we might try was taking Jeff's carb off and trying that but the dying and restarting issue got worse and I couldn't make it to shore and we were running out of daylight. Besides, I did want these guys to have some fun and not just hang around me the entire time. It is just baffling to me. None of us are carb experts so I hope I can get someone to do some tweaking on it. It seemed at times like it was flooding out. Jeff screwed the idle adjustment screws in all the way and we found out they were out about 4 turns. Brought them out 1 1/2 as a starting point and it was bogging when I tried to accelerate. Turned them out another 1/2 turn I believe but by that time, it was getting harder to even get to start. It is coming to the meet no matter what.
Thanks to all that helped out.
-
I think trying a differnet carb is the best way to go. Glad to see you ordered a electric fuel pump too. I would hook that up directly to the carb and a separate fuel tank to rule everything else out. Then if the issue is still there, try Jeff's or my carb with the same fuel setup. If it still there we KNOW it is not fuel. Bring that HEI to Red Wing too.
As long as I am on the water I am happy! It was a good evening.

Look! It was running again. :P

Parts hauler
-
Jeff, this is no time to be laying down on the job
We'll turn our heads so you can go in private.
No, there is no cuddy cabin down there!
Elevator repair man? Going down?
Add your own...
-
This isn't what we came out for.
Well on the other hand, being that I dont have a job, this is one way to conserve fuel. :D
-
OK if the V175 is going to be the "Hard Luck Trophy" we'll be using wind power.
-
Sorry about all of your problems Ross. And I sure hate to hear you are having an electric fuel pump over-nighted. That'll hurt the bank. I wish I would have know you were going to do that as O'Reillys carries marine fuel pumps. That is if you have them in Minneapolis. I was talking, texting, to Jason earlier and wondered if the starter solenoid could cause the problem you're having. I think it's ignition related, but, before the distributor/coil as you've placed them at least once. Then I was doing a search and found this.

Ross the way my luck is going me and you can sit on the dock and wave at everyone together. Maybe I will just bring a couple tubes and we can float down and hopefully ride back with someone.
-
Ross, Terry is on to something. Just run a wire directly from the battery to your ballast and bypass the ignition switch and solenoid. you could also feel for hot wires once it stalls.

I called all the local places around me and none had the Holley Red E fuel pump I wanted. They had some others but I wanted to use this one since Red has had such good luck with them. The O'Reillys I called (2) said they would have to order it and depending on where it came from, the minimum would have been 3 days, max 1 week.
Cant imagine what would be going in with the starter solenoid. It is new too.
I just thought of something...when Joe and I were doing our testing, the thing that sticks in my mind was the fuel pressure gauge going to zero as it was dieing. For the next couple of days, I am going to focus on getting this E fuel pump wired and plumbed in because its going to be permanent. Worse case, some of this other stuff could be tried at Red Wing when the "knowledge" is all there.
-
Just make sure it's no more than a 7 lb pump. Most pumps today are for FI and run 40 lbs.
-
Both of mine are running low pressure electic fuel pumps and neither one has a fuel starvation issue with the 650 Edelbrock carbs. We put one of those red Holley pumps on Hot Knots, no problems and it looks good in the bilge next to that little red engine.
-
I didn't know they dent carry them in stock. I just know that overnight shipping is
very costly. Just an FYI, if you can use UPS, they have an option that will save you a few bucks and that's for delivery by 3pm. And to have it shipped to a business instead of a house address helps also.

Too late. I wanted it before the weekend and bent over and paid the 25.00 for overnight. Its here now and I am heading out to see what fittings I need to go buy.
-

The idle adjustment screws are for just that, to help during idle only. Once you start to open the throttle up, they are pretty much non-functional because another circuit takes over and as vacuum increases more, the main venturi discharge gas. So by turning in the idle adjustment screws, that might be why it was getting harder to start? unless you were opening up the throttle, just a guess. As far as the bogging goes, that sounds like an accelerator pump issue, and I'm aware you just had it rebuilt, the float could still be too high or too low.
Terry
-
So any kind of "adjustments" over and above idling is all internal.
I had a thought last night when looking through the instructions for the new pump.
When I read "a fuel pump is made to pump fuel to the carb, not pull it from the tank" it says its all gravity to me. I wonder if I could have the Racor filter mounted too high? If its higher than the tank that could be a problem? Maybe it is causing fuel starvation?
Thoughts?
I put it where I did for convenience. Nothing else to mount it to.
-
That is a true statement about the pump, but if the entire line runs at that level I don't think it's going to make a lot of difference to lower the filter
-
Low pressure pumps pull better than push and high pressure is the opposite. Not sure why. I would just put it somewhere between the separator and carb. I don't think having the separator that high would matter.
-
Just like in a car, once the fuel is in the line it create a siphon, as long as the pump below the fuel tank You should be good
-
Ok good. I dont want to move that too.
-
So any kind of "adjustments" over and above idling is all internal.
Correct. And internally, other than float adjustment, there isn't much that can be done without parts replacement and or machining/drilling.
Terry
-
The Racor is designed to work best on the "suction" side of the pump Ross, your mounting looks good!
-
Ross the way my luck is going me and you can sit on the dock and wave at everyone together. Maybe I will just bring a couple tubes and we can float down and hopefully ride back with someone.
Doesn't sound all that bad Shawn. At least I could quit working on this thing.

So you bringing a drill press Terry? ;D

Hopefully that won't be necessary Ross. I hope the new fuel pump solves your problems.

We went to the Dakota County Fair tonight to watch Jason crash n burn. I saw Jason, but his car was a no-show. Still had a good time. First time at a Demo Derby.

Garden tractors? Cool Seems like there could be damage to legs. Not cool.
I wanted to make it there this year but I had other priorities unfortunately.

Sorry Jerry. Yea, the Big SUV's and Astro's would have pummeled me in my Voyager. I decided to not break myself! next year there will be a FWD minivan class which will be a much better fit for my mangled van. I have never bailed on a race but after seeing what was running Friday night (astro's modified with small blocks and Durangos with one ton truck rear ends) I knew it was the smartest thing to do.
My brother did good in his explorer. I think you saw a great show. Drivers were actually hitting in all classes. Sometimes they can be pretty boring.
