Yeah it's kind of funny, it seems so scary when you hear about it and see pictures, but once you're in there it's not that big of a deal.
Keisha saw the picture on Facebook and kind of freaked because it looks so claustrophobic and I told her she was coming with us back through the locks and we were going to drive her back to her car.
But she said the same thing, that's not that bad.

For the amount of water that has to go in & out, it pretty fast ...

Well I've never actually researched it, but I would assume a Wikipedia search would get you all the gory details.
But from being through there watching the water move and the sounds that accompany it, I assumed they use the natural hydrostatic pressure, letting the water in from up above and letting it out to down below.
When we were on the sandbar waiting to go up I noticed water rushing out before they open the gates and the level on that little sandbar just down from the falls went up about 4 inches.
