Title: SOLD ..Another "Bond Boat" .. SOLD
Post by: makinwaves on August 02, 2018, 03:27:06 PM
Short ad:

1978 Glastron GT-150.  Completely restored. 115 Mercury engine.  Great trailer. Some accessories included. Clear title in hand. $3,500

The rest of the story…

This “Bond Boat” started as a 1978 silver metalflake boat that had seen better days (trolling motor on bow).  I wanted to make it look like the 1972 boat which made the record setting jump in Live and Let Die so the restoration began.

About 8 years ago I separated the halves and tore it down to a bare shell.  All new stringers/ floor/ ski locker etc.  The transom was made of 2 layers of coated ¾” plywood with a couple layers of fiberglass between the layers, between the hull, and on the face.  I added larger knees tying into the stringers in anticipation of a larger than stock motor.

The wood on the original seat uprights were in good shape so I reused them.  I made new seat bases.  I added new foam and had everything covered with new white and silver carbon fiber look vinyl with orange welting.  The back curtain has the Glastron logo embroidered on it and is held down with Velcro.

The paint was all new 3 or 4 years ago.  It is Signature Finish from Fabula in Florida. There is a little crack where the transom meets the upper cap.  It not structural, just cosmetic.  That’s a problem area on the GT’s.

While I had the trim off I polished everything to a mirror finish.  It has lost some luster over the years but it still looks better than the original cast finish.  The bilge pump with auto switch, rub rail insert, cleats, bilge pump outlet, stern light and light socket are all new (3 years ago).  The GT-150 badge on the bow is a machined aluminum piece I polished and painted.  It hides a custom 12 gallon aluminum gas tank in the bow.  The football emblems on back are period correct.  I cleaned up and painted those.  The running lights are the cat eye style, one on each side.

I have the gauges that came with the motor.  They are included but not installed yet.  The horn, lights, and bilge switches are new.  The steering wheel matches the style used on the Bond boat and has SS inserts.

The Mercury 115 Tower of Power was installed last year.  It has an integral trim pump so I filled the hole in the splashwell that allowed all the hydraulic lines to go in to an inboard pump.  I added a tilt/trim switch on the cowl so you can tilt the motor while you’re at the back to install the transom saver.  It has a 19 pitch SS prop.  I’ve got to 54.7 mph on GPS.

The trailer got new wheels, tires, bearings, bearing buddies, winch strap, bow stop, transom straps, tongue jack, LED tail-lights, paint and stickers 3 years ago.
I’m also including the orange accessories.  There’s 2 dock lines, one stretchy dock line (love it), one long rope for tying up onshore, tool box, whistle, 2 flashlights, 2 bumpers with orange ropes, and a paddle.

The restoration was mostly completed 2 or 3 years ago.  It’s been in a heated shop since I’ve owned it.  It hasn’t sat in the water more than 3 days at a time a couple of times a year.

I hate to sell it but I need some money to finish up my CV-23 and do some other things.

Hate to see it go, far more time and money in it than your asking.

It's on there now.  If no interest soon it will go on eBay.

It didn't even sell on eBay.  ??? :o $3,000 is my bottom dollar. If it doesn't sell I'll use it another season.  I just put a new battery in it and it fired right up.
