Hi all, my name is Michael and I just joined this forum. I have a 1963 Glastron v142 that I am in the process of restoring, a 1966 glastron v142 that I am pausing the restoration project to sell, and a 1963 mercury 500 outboard that I am in the process of restoring. Currently, the 63 is going through demolition/deconstruction phase, the 66 is deconstructed and awaiting warm weather to lay down glass, and I've been able to get the engine running strong but it might need work on the lower unit.

I started this all about 3 months ago, so I've been trying to learn as quickly as I can. Glad to be part of another community.

Here's their current conditions.

1966 v142: Red, blue, and white. Original color was blue but the previous owner did a piss poor paintjob on top of the gelcoat. Have all the hardware/windshield inside for the winter

1963 v142: Original red and white gelcoat. Just a crazy amount of crazing, or I could probably just shine it up and send it out. Currently in the middle of taking all the hardware off and separating the cap from the hull.

1963 Mercury 500: Runs like a dream, dont even need choke. Just needed a new ground wire. The lower is currently separated to diagnose a shifting quirk.

Current plan is to sell/donate the 1966, restore the 1963, and put the motor on the 63. Just got to wait for it to warm up before I can do any fiberglass work. Doing all this work outside only since I don't have a garage.

Note: If anyone has any information /sales brochures/ really anything that includes the 1963 v 142 in it I would love to see it. I'm at the stage where I could really do anything when it comes to design, so matching the original factory design would be nice.

All Glastron brochures can be found here in PDF …

Lower resolution pictures can be found here ..

IMO ..
I would keep the 1966 V142, it was the first year for V142 to have a Aqua Lift hull while the 1963 would have the rounded bottom.
Unless you like the older style and don't care about speed and ride.
