GT160 Fuel Tank Fitment Photo Please
« on: November 24, 2019, 12:02:46 PM »
Guys, I'm rebuilding my own GT150 and I'm wanting to install 2 swivel buckets for driver/passenger and then a small forward facing bench for the rear seating - much like the GT160's. I've looked at several post and done searches here, but I can't find detailed photos of the fuel tank and bilge areas. I'd like to see where the fuel cap and vent line fittings come out and how this area is ventilated. I'm used to seeing fore and aft facing scoops near the stern to pass-through moving air so gas fumes and battery sparks don't mix. I don't see anything on the GT160 to promote/insure ventilation except small voids on each side of the bench. Is is that simple?

Thanks for inputs. I'm a big guy and I don't think I want those fixed back to back stock seats. Having a swivel driver's seat with sliding adjustments will make getting in and out so much easier. If not those, then at least folding back to backs would be a 2nd choice.

Most Glastron's have a large hole in splash well for cables to pass thru, maybe enough to vent area ?
GT160's used portable fuel tanks like the GT150's.
Few people have mounted a tank in the bow.

Not a GT .. But picture of large hole in splash well.

Thanks Gregg. I have a 12 gallon tank that I'm going to mount above the bilge and between the large knee braces I'll be adding. All of this is on-hold while I wait on my doctor's next "fix" of my back injury. As is, I can't lift a roller, let alone install the keel and stringers. Nothing is glassed-in, just roughed in and waiting...... The tank came from a friend's Allison that I helped restore and will be cleaned before use. I had just remembered that I had it and set in place for the photo..

I'll post progress. Gordon

When I did the gt-Jet I put a tank in the front and it fit nice but you’ll loose the ski locker. And when full of gas it messed up the balance of the boat, to bow heavy.  I just use two out board tanks in back now and it works good.. gt150s are just to small to have the bow tank in my opinion. I also put a pair of round back bucket seats in it because the inboard jet took up so much room.

Some pix of the GT160 I had but never restored.

Fuel fill on the port side, tank vent in the splash well, no vents

Just a note on the fuel tank placement.
when i did our GT150 the research i did indicated that the GT150 hull "liked" to have weight in the bow.
its a sacrifice on speed for sure but it would do 50 with a shaft rated 115 and it handled remarkably, looking back i would do that again as the few MPH to be gained is just "bragging rights" (not saying theres anything wrong with that)
As far as a bucket conversion goes i do agree, but consider that the "wraparound" buckets found in a bigger runabout will touch the sides and each other making it difficult to get to the stern. the GT160 seats are quite narrow.
looking forward to seeing more pix when ya get fixed up and start working on it again.

Guys, thanks for the inputs. That tank photo shows me what I wanted to see - mine will be similar.

I will likely do 2 modern bucket seats up front and a small, convertible bench in the back. The Allison XB2002 is their smallest/fastest bassboat, but it converts to a small, family runabout with seating for 4. It came with 5 different seats and offers 5 different seating configurations using them in different locations. I'll get some photos made of mine and post here for this discussion we're having and for ideas of member's future builds. I'm after a tasteful restoration, but a build with modern materials, flotation levels, and seating. Gordon
