Exhaust Alternative
« on: October 23, 2011, 10:31:38 PM »
I spent today resizing the holes in the transom for the 4" thru-hulls, it's really close to the power steering lines, about 1/2 inch but they do clear them.  I was torn between the strait pipes, or going back thru the "y" pipe, and I can not afford the silent choice diverters, so ... here's an alternative.

I been thinking about the noise laws in some of the place's we want to visit, ??? but, maybe with these things it will quieten it down enough to slide by, I'm aware that the exhaust system is not suposed to be modified, no cut-outs, but it being an 81 model boat, they do allow a few more desible's ... we'll see I quess.  I'm not opposed to putting mufflers on it, just ain't got no mo Money to throw at this little darlin.

"Modified exhaust?  No sir.  That is factory stock.  You haven't seen many of these 30 year old Scimitars, have you officer?"    ;D

I thought you already had 4" on there Red.
So those diverters push the exhaust out the sides of the pipe (down only?) as opposed to allowing it out the end. How are those flappers actuated? Cable or electric solenoid? That would be a cool option. Curious as to how much it quiets it.

I Love Erik's poat !

I had 3" exhaust before, these cylinders are air operated, closing them is suposed to quieten the noise down about 50%
there are about 50 1/4" holes in the bottom of the pipes
