Ford VS Chevy .. not likely. I would think there are a lot of other differences aside from the engine mounts like bell housing.

I am sure the mounts are different. Parts are alot cheaper and easier to get for a 350 if you wanted to stay with that. I would think a 302 might be a bit small for a CV23 too unless its "built"?

these guys are right, mounts are in a different location, and the bell housing is different. there are a few bell housings out there that mate a Ford to a Mercruiser Alpha (or pre-Alpha style) outdrive, but I think you would be very disappointed with the 302 in a CV-23 as it will lack the torque needed to get it moving that the 350 Chevy would provide... maybe consider a mild marine crate engine (or marinize a GM street crate motor). for a very reasonable price you could have stock and reliable power for many years. just a thought.

I bet the 302 you have is a volvo drive and the 350 is a mercruiser. If that's the case you need to swap out EVERYTHING and even cut a larger hole in the transom. I can't remember if Volvo used a 350 or not. If it's a volvo to volvo swap them it may not be that bad. I agree, you would want to build up the 302. Brian (Administrator) has a 19' Glastron with a built 302 and she scoots along really well.

I haven't had a lot of time to do water tests with my new boat but I can say this... The origional owner of this boat took the origional motor (the 190 hp) and invested about $2,000 in a rebuild.  He bored it over, did all the internals, cam, heads, intake, carb, etc.  I hope to have the motor dyno'd this spring, but the estimation is that it's now around 300-320hp.

The boat is a V-195 which is a pretty large boat.  I don't have the weights in front of me, but I would bet the the CV-23 and the V-195 are within a few hundred pounds.  The CV-23 has a shallower hull and will draw less water than mine.  Mine runs about 55mph with 2 people.

Anyway...  The amount of money spent to build the 302 would go a good amount further in building a 350.  plus, you have to figure an amount of money in the change over in hardware and parts...

If you have the 350 (260 hp) I would work on rebuilding that and add a few small mods and you would be in the same ballpark as a built 302.

Just my opinion...  :)
