Cvx-17 R&R
« on: February 18, 2014, 11:27:26 AM »
Ok, here it goes. Im finally able to get on this website thanks to the fast work by the administrators. Ok, now ive had a passion since my lake days as a kid, for a cvx-metric series, cuz he was always the best handling, and fastest boat on the lake with a johnny 140, around 62-3mph, and did it look good doin it ;D. His happened to be an 84'.
And so the dream begins. I found an 86' cvx-17, with a 135merc about 4 hrs away in Wisconsin at white lake. Lady who owned it was movin to Wyoming and wanted to leave it behind , so we haggled to $2800, and she would pull it half way to me. :)
Well, as you all know, first inspection 2hrs from home was iffy. But was doable with alittle elbow grease, right, wrong. After the initial cleanup, the floor behind the front seats was flexing alittle, so cut the carpet, cuz im putting in new, right, that's cheap enough to see whats up, only to find stress cracked resin on top of green treated plywood, whaaaat? ok, pull alittle more carpet, oh good, its just a patch, right, no, everything else was waterlogged.ugh!
So I gutted it front to back, tada. and will try to post pics

The oscillating tool sure come in handy!
You did a "balsa core" so you didn't need center stringer, and could put a fuel tank under floor ?

No center stringer ,two outer ones, so with the core and 2 stringers it should be super strong

These pics are over the last 6 months. I'm just trying to give a couple at a time so as to soak it all in. I'm not doing the main work ,im just helping a gentleman who builds 42'-52' offshore superlight cats. I helped him with a project, now he's helping me.
He knows all the tricks to keep it super light and fast.
