Kessler Auto Salvage
« on: May 19, 2019, 06:26:43 PM »
Last weekend we made a "junk yard trip". Found Kessler Auto Salvage outside Spooner WI. Absolute paradise! Thought I'd share some pictures as I know there are a few of you  out there who love old cars as well.

Nope. Especially one that will let you walk through them let alone with young kids. We were all in paradise! Even Jamie had a good time!

Old junk yards are the best! I can spend hours in them..  I need a grill for my 40 Plymouth, you didn’t happen to see one did you?

Thanks for the pictures Jason. Some of us old timers can remember when those cars were common on the streets. When I worked in Blaine, MN, often during lunch hours I would walk the junk yards in Andover, MN, not too far away to get parts for the 1987 Toyota Celica, 1984 Olds Delta 88, 1983 Toyota Corolla.

Not many junk yards left around the Twin Cities, and now one can use Car-Part.com to get parts from around the nation.

Some real treasures in that yard.

I've had this 66 Impala SS since I was 16.  A walk through a junkyard is a walk through a time capsule.  When I refurbished the car about 20 years ago I would take a backpack of tools and a picnic lunch to the local yards.  The small finds were treasures.

These days I'm hunting for my 97 Rover parts.  I'm finding many will still let me roam a yard, but that is rural Minnesota yards.

For kids, those yards have to be like an adventure filled with questions and castles. :)

Very True Dave,
Most "junk yards" now are warehouses. A car comes in, is totally dismantled of any parts with value, parts are stocked in massive indoor warehouses and listed on car-part while the rest of the car is instantly sent off to the crusher and scrapped.

They might. Give Ernie a call. He knows the entire collection as he built it from scratch. He has more cars from the 40's then I've seen anywhere else. But most of the cars have been pretty well reclaimed by earth.
