Well guys the engine is a 140  and the outdrive to me is a MR with tilt and trim. I have never jumped the coil to the starter so i really don't know what i am doing at that point. so i will have to figure out something. I am trying to stay positive but my mind tells me i have one big ugly yellow anchor here if thats the case anyone need anything the windsheild is good and the floor has aluminum sheets which i have never seen before (over wood) I will keep the controls, outdrive, and hopfully the motor

Dont get too frustrated yet, Tom. It could be ok. Should do some thawing this week. Leave it in the sun!

I'm about 30 miles north of you, near Taylors Falls.

No pics of Mello yellow yet? Come on!
After you get it all thawed out, it sounds like Jason is willing to come by and show you how to jump the starter. Is there a reason you cant use the key?

Do you need Chris to come up here and show you how to hotwire a boat? Pull the ign switch and jump from the Bat to the st terminal. You can do it at the starter too if that's easier. Time to get yer hands dirty.

As far as the pics go my girlfriend can't find her cord she needs to install them. My brother told me to take out the egintion fin 12v and the and the starter and touch them together she should crank.. If the boat is a 74 classic is that the Mr or alpha its all black ?

Thanks for all your help with this project.

It's more likely to be an R or MR drive, Alpha One gear came out in 1983 and was replaced by the Alpha One Generation 2 in 1991.

Yeah, most should still be available. The common ones that you'll most likely need are things like bellows, shift cable, gimbal bearing, transom seal (for transom assembly to boat), drive/bell housing gasket set (to reinstall the drive to the transom assembly). Stuff like that.

You may be able to use just the engine but the gear ratio in the '66 drive is not suitable for the lesser horsepower, which means you would have to use the drive that came with the donor boat. But to do that everything needs to be replaced including the transom assembly in order to mount the drive. Having tilt and trim with the newer equipment is a bonus and once you use it you'll wonder how you got along without it.

The person that i bought the  boat from i think can barly tie his shoes... The Donor boat i bought (was out working in the man cave) pulled out the ign there is 4 wires on it but the one wire is not connected at all and not even sure where it goes the rest of them had either but cut and spliced together to fifferent colors thats just in the front i cant tell you how many wires in the back by the motor have cut and left like that. Tried to find a wire diagram for the Big Yellow Anchor as i call it.

Sorry gents just needed to vent I just wish he would have left it alone.

Ignore all wiring in boat.

Leave battery cables connected.
Remove wire connected to + side of coil.
Run jumper wire from + side of bat to + side of coil.
When ready to crank use a small jumper wire from + bat cable to small terminal on starter solenoid.

This picture shows one of my old derby cars. The 2 wires plus bat cables are all that are needed to get an old carb and points distributer engine to run.

There is the update as of today i after jeffs help got the motor to crank over and it cranks over really good. Hopfully if Jason stops by tomorrow we can get to start up for a second or two. Then at that point get the muffs some gas and see if she will run or not and let her run for awhile and check to see if there is any problems.

Stay tuned
