   **** UPDATE ****

Jason hot wired the coil & jumped the starter.
After cleaning the points & alittle ether, she fired.
Hooked up gas & water - BANG, she was alive.

Bad news, Cracked block :'(

Jerry, Rich, Jeff  ???
It's the 4 cyl, inline 3.0, cast iron.
Crack is external, about 6" long horz, behind the manifold, just below the head.
Could something like that be brazed or welded without disassembly & inexpensively???

So here the donor boat. Jim and I stopped over this morning to help Tom get the motor running. Jim cleaned up some dirty points and she fired right up. hooked up the hose and had her running pretty good. Then................we saw water was not coming out exhaust bus coming out from under the intake. hoping it was just a bad gasket, we pulled the intake to find a large crack which we had no way of seeing till we pulled the intake log. So. looks like another dishonest seller. At least he didn't pay much and still has his money in parts with a good carb, ignition system, alternator, outdrive, power trim ect. Better luck next time Tom!

Heres some pics of Mellow Yellow which I recommend gets dropped off in the previous owners front lawn!

Freeze plugs are not there to save the block in case of water freezing in the engine and it's rare they will. It's obvious the engine wasn't winterized when you see a crack as bad as that. And what about the manifold? If the engine wasn't drained I think it's a given that the manifold wasn't either, it may be cracked too. It's very important to scrutinize these things carefully, run them if possible in front of the seller. That crack looks really bad and longer than 6 inches. You gotta wonder if it's that bad on the outside what does the inside look like and are there any other internal breaks that you can't see. I doubt it would be worth putting money into it further.

Thanks Rich, that's what Jason & I thought.

Tom was unable to run engine before purchase, took the guys word for it  :(
Crack was behind manifold.

Manifold did look OK - no leaks from it when running.

You are very welcome Tom,

Someone in the club will find you a good engine ;)

Maybe even a 6cyl that won't need mods to fit.

That would be great time will tell now finish up taking what i want and to sell and find a happy junk yard. I thought about cutting it up but for 100 bucks i would rather roll it over there push it off and be done with it.

Tom, if you have a sawzall, start cutting the transom away from the engine. If we can just pull the entire assembly straight back and out it will be a lot easier. Then i'll come over with my cherry picker and pull the whole thing out.

Tom, thats really a bummer. Sounded all positive at first "fired right up" then the water leaks.
Well on the positive side, like Jason said, you got your moneys worth in parts...trailer, outdrive, carb, ignition, controls and gauges too. Pull all that stuff.
AND
Isnt it great to belong to this club where guys like Jim and Jason come over and help out?! That alone is worth its weight in gold. Well,, maybe not. Gold is going up.  :D

Maybe your son would like the hull. You could pull him in it?
Or dig a hole and plant flowers in it?  :P
