75 V-156
« on: April 10, 2011, 12:35:36 PM »
Anyone have something similar to this boat?  Was coming back from Lowe's and saw one sitting in the parking lot of a little business. I made a quick U-turn and went to investigate. It's in front of a double bay metal building with a sign for marine repairs.

It's a 1975 V-156, orange and white and the hull is in very good to excellent condition for a 36 year old boat. Has the original Chrysler 700 Skier motor on the back that looks like it was used about 10 times.  Football emblems are in very good condition. The floor is completely out from the console area to the transom. Probably why it's there.  I plan to call tomorrow morning to see if it's available or not. A rare find in as good as condition as it looks. Bottom barely has a nick in it.

If anyone here has experience with this hull, let me know how it does on the water. I'm guessing about 35 - 40 with the current set-up.  I'll go back later to get a couple of pictures.

I have a blue 1972 V-156 in pretty good shape ...
Came with a 1971 65 HP Merc w/o T&T and did about 35 mph on gps (4th hole out on trim) but was burning prop from cavation.
Put a rebuilt 1994 60 HP Johnson with T&T on three years ago and am getting 40 + mph on gps.

Glastron started building V-156's in 1967 with the "Aqua Lift II" hull, a tri-hull with a V pad stern, single front bow seat, curved windshield and twin stern grab handles ...

By 1972 Glastron changed the deck with squared windshield, twin bow seats, removed the stern grab handles and upgraded interier trim, don't think hull was changed ...

In 1977 Glastron changed the name to T-156, which made more sense then calling it a V ...
Seats changed and some trim peices, LOA and beam stayed the same ...

In 1978 the LOA grew 6" and beam grew 4", HP rating went from 85 to 100 HP and the name changed to T-160 ...

In 1979 name changed to T-159, spec's stayed the same as 1978 ...
From 1976 on there were T-166's which was the longer and wider hull with fancy interiors and in latter years MF gell.

In 1980 there only model was the T-159 which was the fancy T-166 XL with all the bell's and whistles

Looks like there was no models in 1981 and 1982 but in 1983 a T-162 showed up, and lasted until 1985 ...

There was some "Fish & Ski models in certain years also ...
It was there best selling model for many years and they made like 50,000 of em' ...
Nice little boat that dose every thing well but not a great ride !
Would like to hear from some one with a newer 90 to 115 HP motor on how hull handles over 50 mph.

The Gel and the upholstery all look to be in very good shape.  Once the new floor is in that is going to be a nice boat.  Wonder if the transom is going south too?

Yup, looks really clean. Wonder why the floor crapped out and the rest looks pretty good? Maybe left outside?
Right price it could be an easy fix.

Is it just my imagination or did the V-xxx T-xxx get pointier in at the bow? Less square?

Also, probably the first boat I've seen where an orange outboard looks good on it.  ;D

I'm trying to figure that out as well. Doubt that it was kept outside because there is hardly any sun fading to the entire boat. The motor looks like new other than just age on the decals. The vinyl in the main area is barely discolored. Even the football plates are in very good, non-sun faded condition. Not sure of the story on the boat but I'll call on Monday and see what's up with it. It's probably there for the floor work.  I have an empty spot under the carport. Would look nice next to the CVX 16 that is orange as well.

Speaking of the CVX, I finally have the ski pylon fully mounted and plan to test it out this coming weekend. That was a pain in the a** crawling in that little space and reaching for the support arm bolts. Felt like I was in a coffin.

Under the front seats its open to the hull and waves over the bow or any one crowling in the front get water into the hull.
There are two plug that seal the hull from the rear half round where the drain plug is.
If plugs were not removed and bow lifted ... water sat in there !

I did notice the last two times I took my boat out that when I removed the plug I had about  1 1/2 cups of water in the bilge pump pocket. No water getting in but I believe it's condensation as a few times in the past 3 weeks it's cooled off to the upper 40's at night and then 80 during the day. Mine stays parked under the carport with a good cover on it.
