MC1 Steering Play
« on: September 21, 2018, 06:14:58 PM »
MC-1 I have steering play is in my Gimble ring I believe. I see all kinds of stuff about repairing these for Alpha drives but little for these MC1 drives or "pre-alphas". Anyone have experience? I will have the motor out so that won't be an issue.

I tried to tighten the pinch bolt on the steering arm from the inside of the boat, but it was tight. AND I don't think there was a nut or anything on top of the pin to tighten.

Thanks in advance!

The problem is wear and play forms where the pinion pin goes through the upper part of the gimbal.

I will have the motor out, will this make changing the gimbal ring easier?

Also, what model square gimbal rings will interchange with the splined gimbal ring on my 1979 mercruiser 140?
