16' Maltese Magnum Missile
« on: January 01, 2018, 06:22:43 PM »
This boat should be fast with a 115 HP Merc. Someone on FaceBook is posting his - 67 MPH. I believe Don L has one. Manufactured in the late 1960's.

The fine print in the advertising literature says "short shaft"

Dave, attached is a photo of the one I built......I sold it when I decided to get rid of all my boats and it went to Florida last I know.
Now when you get old and decide to sell all your boats it may not go quite the way you plan..........Last fall a guy stops by the house and says he has an old boat he thinks I might be interested in.........Been sitting in a garage for 20 years.....super nice original...seats and all....but I am getting rid...........I'll take it. Right after I took this photo it went into the barn for winter.

Thanks for the story Don. I kinda thought you had a Magnum Maltese Missile. What did you think of it? Your 150 HP Mercury is a short shaft as the literature stated that it needed. How fast did the boat go and how did it handle?

Your latest Hydrostream looks really nice.

The Missile handled well, typical for true tunnels I  would say.  With that engine ran in the sixties.........Hyper, that is a Panther Tunnel, funny you mentioned the Ventura....... About a month before I came upon the Panther I fell into a smoking deal on a Ventura, I will post a photo when I get home. Think I am back up to nine now. Both boats came with Mercury 1400's ..............I think I said it once before...............I just like boats

It's nice to have the space to own multiple boats. If I had to choose four boats for the right weather conditions, number of passengers on board, and large vs. small bodies of water, I would choose my Glastron/Carlson CVX-16, a 16' Magnum Maltese Missile, an Allision Grand Sport, and a 22' Progesssion.

All those nice boats, and I'm stuck with a garage full of parts! This part arrived in the mail today. Not sure if I needed it, but it was a want. 1500XS lower case with LWP.

Stumbled onto this about a month before the Panther.......Not original and needs some work if restoring but solid enough to play with and the price was right.

Not sure how rare it is, but I hadn't seen one before. I'd love a 1500XS, but not sure if that's the right motor for my CV project. Since this foot will go on any inline, I'm still thinking a later 86-87 ADI 115, which was 140 (86) and 150 (87) crank hp. So a little less revving than the XS, but the same crank rated HP. The real question is if I stick with a late style mid and integral trim, or go with the late 70's style that I already have and that opens up the possibility of a frankenmotor with a 15" mid and LWP. It's going on a setback bracket anyway, so I can position the engine for optimum height. Basically I have no idea what I'm going to do, so any suggestions are welcome! I think in the spring time if anyone has a lead on a nice 87 115, I'll be in the market!

Don ...
Will keep an eye out for one ...
Vixen info page ...

Ray ...
Ed mounted an older Merc on his CV16, had to do some mod's to mount it to jack plate and mod's to hook up to Baystar hydraulic steering.    He hasn't got it on the water yet .. will let you know when he get her running.
Much cheaper and easier to get some old decals for the newer motor ...
Short shaft motor might be to short on a CV.

Mrs Retro has delivered a couple boats to the guy in Rochester over the years......I think that is a GW Invader in the photo......They look similar to the Magnum in shape. If my old memory is working right tonight Magnum sold the Missile molds to Randy Rabe? who then sold hulls called the Rabco Hustler. No guarantees on the memory stuff......it is as old as me. When I was a kid I raced a Scat-Kraft pickle fork tunnel. I have been looking for one for some years now.....they look like the attached photo....Mine was a kneel down...I ran a v4 OMC .....also there was a full rear fairing available......anyway if anyone knows of one in someones backyard please let me know.
