Title: 9/15 Missisippi River Run
Post by: CVX Fever on August 16, 2010, 10:52:52 AM
Jeff and I put in at the landing in South St Paul right beneath the Wakota bridge yeateday.  We went down to the Hastings/Prescott dam came back and then past the landing heading north into downtown St. Paul. I've never run this stretch of river before and I have to say it is one of my favorites. Sorry we didn't let more people know, kind of made plans at the last minute. See everyone at the big meet this weekend! 8)

Jeff drying his shirt out after taking a cruiser wake over the bow. It was a little rough going down but was nice and smooth coming back. Especially heading into downtown St Paul and back.

Jeff got his shirt dry enough to put back on! ;D

Stopping for a little break. A deadhead on the shore made a nice seat. Lots of nice sandy areas all over this stretch of river, perfect for parking the boats.

Looks like fun! That is a fun stretch of river. Not too busy either.

We'll have to get a group together during a nice weekend in Sept. or Oct. and make this run. Maybe do a little cookout. For this type of boating September is my favorite month.

Lets do it. I have never been on that part either. Nice fall day of boating and a picnic would be nice.
Is that a public landing you put in at? I know Jason showed a map of where it was but I dont remember what side of the river its on or how to get to it. Please provide that info sometime before then,
Thanks

I recognize that log, I stopped at that island last summer too for a pit stop.  The scenery is great down that stretch and I like seeing the trains go by when you get close to the dam.

Nice variety along the way - City of St. Paul, small towns along the way, channels marked long wide streaches of the river, bluffs, trains, sand beaches, and dams at both ends - Ford Dam and Hastings Dam.

Kip what make and model of camera are you using? The detail and clarity are sharp.

Ross - Yep its a public landing and a pretty decent one at that. Have to cross a set of RXR tracks to get to it. We chewed the fat after loading up the boats waiting for a train to pass and by the time we got in our vehicles(the train had long since passed) and on our way we had to stop again for another train. Was kind of funny because if we had left a minute sooner we would have made it across the tracks.

David - It's an older Canon PowerShot. Nice little camera but nothing too fancy.
