Welcome to the forum Gibby !

Maciej make them for GT150's , he might be able to make graphic / plate for the V156.
You will need a good picture of one, for him to make one if he hasn't reproduced one yet.
Are you on Facebook ? You can contact him there .. Or I can ask him.

His contact here and on eBay ..

His Facebook group …

If he can't .. Try Aaron here or on Facebook
http://forum.cgoamn.com/index.php?topic=7978.0

You can also search eBay for other company's reproducing them.

If your transom is solid, you could put a 115 HP motor on it. Everyone put's 115 HP motors on the GT150's.
After you remove old motor poke around in bolt holes for soft wood.
You will need to drill new holes for the J/E motor, old Merc were different pattern.

Might want to check with your insurance company first, if you carry insurance.

Best picture I have of plate from 1972 V156.

Your serial number (HIN) are stamped into a piece of metal glued behind plate.
I can ask them about plate, if you like.

If your putting a 115 HP motor on, I would upgrade steering to a NFB system.
Pretty sure a 1984 Johnson is prop rated and your boat will be at or above 50 mph.
Do you have a splash well mounted steering system ?
Picture below of splash well mount steering system.

Most disconnect the VRO system as fuel pumps are crazy expensive and all parts (hoses) should be updated after time.

The steering wheel and throttle were in the way, so pictures I sent you are the best I have.
Sold the boat years ago.
There's a guy on FB that has three V156's, he might be able to get a better shot if the one's I sent aren't good.

email sent ...

After replacing my original 1971 Merc 65 HP motor with a 1994 Johnson 60 HP motor, I replaced steering system.
I didn't get the NFB system, boat would only do about 40 MPH/GPS and didn't have much torque steer.

I did have to replace the connector you see in first two pictures.
They are quick connect/disconnect and aren't safe.
In last two pictures you can see plate I had to make to get extra length for cable to motor.

Can you post some pictures of your boat / motor ?
