I don't want to burst any of the club love going on, but the 'read' count goes up anytime a search engine 'reads' the thread.  Including engines like 'Baidu' (state sponsored Chinese search engine), google, yahoo, spam attacks, etc...

We have approximately 250-300 active users (users online in the last 6 mos).

None of those are bad things...I like our little corner of the world.
