Any ideas ?
« on: August 06, 2011, 08:05:06 AM »
Got the new helm and cable in but bulge for rotary is on the other side ... Right where my tach is !
Tach will fit on other side but that leaves me with a three and a half inch hole in my dash ....
Though about getting a speedo and cutting off the case so just the face is there or patching hole and putting wood grain decal like original.
Maybe just a large Glastron sticker .... LOL

Any ideas ?

Gregg, what a bummer. There are various ways to fill that spot, one on them being the gauge that you mentioned with the back part of the case cut off. Another idea would be to cover a plug alittle bit larger than the hole with the same blue fabric are your seats, even to attach one of those little "Glastron" emblems onto the fabric. If not blue fabric, off white or brown. I could make an aluminum plug and Paul Mozer could cover it. Other ideas could be a square stainless steel plug, and square aluminum plug, or an instrument with the glass frosted. Do not know if they make black plastic plugs in that large of a diameter, but I have two bolt holes high in my transom that I may cover with black plastic buttons glued on.

Teleflex makes a 20 degree off-set that should let you clear the tach.

You can get a gauge blank panel to snap in the hole.  Check some sellers of gauges online.

Dave & wiliermdb
That cover will work ! ... and price is RIGHT !
My boat came with an old fish finder bolted to the dash. The cream colored cap blend in pretty well.
You can see it in above picture and in the photo of my transom below.

Jerry
Looked for offset but couldn't find it, are you refering to the benzel ?
Could you post a link to part ?
Not much room under there for anything ...

Thanks guys ...

Not sure what kind of mount you're running back at the motor Gregg, but I ran across these on ebay the other day.  Looks to be a good deal?

WOW good price Mark ... But thats not what I need ...
Posted it on CGOA for "72GT150" whos looking for one or parts for one.
My dealer wants $189 for a kit .... OUCH !

My old cable had a threaded end on it with a "Quick connect" which are illegal now ( for a dealer to install ) and looks like a bad idea no matter whos installing it ...
So I lost about 3 inches on the end, with not enough adjustment on the transom mount to make up for lose.
I made a triangle plate to make up for the lose. It will fill in the space lost from quick connect removal.
A quick 2 hour job has turned in to a week long project ... LOL
Should have gone with the tilt tube mount  ... checked I have just enough clearance on other side for link to clear.

Steerings done !
Should have gone with tilt tube set up but wanted it to look stock.
It was so close with the drag link that it might not have worked ...
Plate needs to be repainted but looks OK for rest of summer.
I'll post pictures tomorrow ...

I pulled the driver side seat out to get at helm and cable and when I was reinstalling it I noticed one of the hinge pins was working it way out so
I pushed it back in and check the seat, It still kind of wiggled around, so flipped it over and checked the other hinge.
Screws looked like there coming out of seat base, so grabbed a screw driver and started tighting them, they went no were !
Just the sound of screws turning in rotted wood ... GGGGGRRRR ...
At least that was the only bad one.
After Red Wing I'll have to pop staples, peel back vinyl and see how bad it is ...

Nice clean job, Gregg. Boat spashwell looks so clean that I bet your family used it for the kitchen table to eat from, with hot water from the running motor while your kitchen was being remodeled. LOL. Way to improvise and overcome obstacles and roadblocks along the way. Your entire boat looks ready for the Glastron meet. Have you repaired your prop yet?

This will be the longest work week of the year ... waiting for the meet !
