Quicksilver Laser II 22 pitch
« on: August 19, 2011, 10:14:13 PM »
I have an oppertunity to get a Laser II 22 pitch prop, stailess. Are these good props? Does anyone now if that might be a good pitch for my cvx-18 powered buy a 358. The guy wants $200 for it in nice condition. He is only selling it because he went up In HP and needs a higher pitch prop. That a good deal?

Be sure and concider the diameter as well as the pitch of the prop,  these props are basically made for outboards, although they work well for high performance I/O's  they have a lot of lift, but the weight of the boat is pretty important when chosing a prop

It would be difficult to determine if it's a deal without comparing it to your existing prop. What kind of prop and what pitch are you currently running on your boat? What matters is what you'll be getting for top rpm. Also, I though the older even pitch numbered Laser II props were for small-hub outboards, odd numbered props were large hub for 150 hp outboards and larger as well as Mercruiser I/O but I could be wrong on that.

Thanks Red, That's what I am looking for...I guess I should probably not go for this. as I am running at least 60 hp over the recommended max 200

Well at the moment I am borrowing Steves bravo 21 pitch stainless. I am still in the tuning process with the new engine setup I have. So i guess I should wait till I have it running correct before I start thing about props.

I'm not trying to be a "know-it-all" cause I'm oviously not, but if you can, go to a reputable prop shop, get a couple props to go try out, record their performance, try to get a couple of the new style PowerTech's, they have a lot of lift, lite weight,  great performance, and besides all that, they are very affordable... about half the cost of the Laser

I got my Laser II 23p from ebay, paid about $150 plus shipping and it was only slightly used.

Red, Watched the videos. Sounds like a great prop..but It says only for outboards? Do some outboards interchange with out stern drives? I know a few must because my 19 pitch stainless quicksilver I have cam off a outboard, just not sure of the size and all.

Shrom

I am running a 21p LazerII on my 18 with a 305. That is almost not enough prop for my boat, so im guessing you will need atleast a 23 if not more. I also found my prop on ebay it was almost new for I think $160 with shipping.

I don't know when or what hp for sure, but yes, props that fit the later model Mercury outboards with the large gearcase, I think 200 hp and up,  will fit the Merc I/O with the same size lower gear case, the props are designed for the outboards, because of the high speeds, running closer to the surface, and most have a lot of lift.

From what I have heard I think the 150hp and up outboard props will work on the stern drive because they have the bigger gear case. My prop was advertised as off of a 150hp outboard.

I"m running a 25 Laser II on my intimidator, its a pretty decent prop overall but a 25P mirage perfomed better topend by a couple mph.  They do not have the bite of a mirage, and getting on plane 'cleanly' is an issue.  it seems to drag a bubble with it and ventilate after getting on plane.  It won't clear out unless I chop the throttle then get right back on it.

Its a bit tall for a stock 260, but its not staying stock much longer....

I LOVE my 23P Laser II. Keep an eye on ebay. they pop up for around $150. I use it on my 1974 CV16SS with the 140I/O.

Maybe I am wrong, But I was under the understanding the even number LaserII pitches are small hub (outboard). Just make sure before you buy.

Thanks guys, I think ill pass on this deal. I'll keep my eye out on ebay for a steal. Till then I better focus on getting my engine running at its best. I'm thinking that a 23 pitch will probably be best I just am looking to find out what are the best brands to buy. and what you guys may have tested already.  I picked up a cheap 23 pitch aluminum prop but its not a name brand prop. So idk how good it will be...it was $40 so I figured why not? lol
