Ya got me on the freeway...LOL

It does look like a looper, I would say that is much heavier then cross flow.

When my 140 gave out several years ago, I had a similar problem, not corrosion, but my water jacket cracked on the bottom, took it to the shop and they said either a new block or just try to sealing it with JB Weld...I thought he was joking but for the cost of a gasket and JB weld it worked for about 2 years then it started leaking again...I finally gave up on got a used 115...

Having owned a CVX 16 with a 140 Johnson, I can tell ya it won't do 70?

All depends on how out of adjustment the speedo is.   :o

'Preciate it Rich.

Well, bleve I'm purty well prepared. Tools, fuel, battery, compression tester loaded into the truck. Gonna pick up my brother around 9am then swing by Gulfliner to get the trailer. Then it's up to Sarasota. Guy sounds pretty hard up, price now 1K or make offer.

Tbh I'd be willing to get near that # if the motor checks out okay. But the no trailer thing sucks. Sorry guys looks like the V163 might be going to meet it's maker, aka Sawsall, sooner than envisioned. Less somebody wants it? I needs that Holsclaw trailer it be sittin on

Gotcha covered buddy. Started stripping the boat this aft. Horn bracket was one of the first things taken off.

Well boys & girls. Pending any unforseen circumstances it looks like I'm the proud, yet skeptical, new owner of a '79 CVX 16.

Motor is indeed a 140 looper. Runs strong. Near 150 psi in all 4 holes? WooHoo! Has a T&H manual 4" jackplate, and hotfoot.

Boat's in decent shape overall exterior wise. But I betcha a nickel the port side stringer is rotten. Hull cracked along the edge of the strake. Bet ya another nickel it's leaking there'n making things worse. 'Flotation' boxes & transom soggy too. Floor's nice'n solid, carpet looks good. But me thinks this is a classic case of putting a fancy new floor down over a soggy core?

You're gonna love this part: Kid jumped at $600. And that was my first offer, dangit! Shoulda offered'm 4 ...?

Hey how much of a hook do you cvx16 guys have. This one has a good 3/8 - 1/2" 'bout 8 to 10 inches in from the transom?

So, what would the CVX 16 run with the 140 on it?  I'm looking at a 150 Fast Strike tomorrow morning. Appears to be in excellent condition and the dealer a couple of miles from my house has performed annual maintenance on it for the past 5 years. Last done in November 2011 and the compression is spot on.

I did pick up a hydraulic steering system dirt cheap from a salvage boat. $200 for everything. Boat had a tree fall on it dead center. OUCH!! Pulled it out today with the help of a friend.

My '77 only has a center stringer. Bottom is flat as can be. No hook.

Congrats Doug, sounds like a little work needed but she'll be worth it I'll bet!  I'm having trouble staying on task with the GT-150 project with that 78 CVX16 sitting in the back yard!  I'm closer to being done than I was 7 months ago, but darn if the CVX wouldn't be a much better "fit" for me the more I think about it. ???

Thanks! Din't think there was sposed to be. Are you absolutely sure there's not a piece of flat ply buried in the strakes outboard of the center stringer? Looks to me this hull is failing in exactly the same spot the V153 did.

Yo Gregg, that's the plan: Hang the 140 on the Baja.

re the CV: It's black metalflake that somebody clearcoated a few years ago so naturally the clear is peeling off. Gel don't look all that bad actually. Interior isn't origional but in fair shape.

I have serious doubts regarding the integrity of the hull. And tbh I'm not sure I'm up to restoring another G/C right now so we'll see what happens.

Sorry the pics from the ad will have to do for now. Din't wanna jinx myself? Soon as I take possesion you'll have more pics than you can shake a stick at.

It would be to bad to put all that time & money into the CV when your Baja is in such nice shape ...
It aint a G/C but it's is a nice lookin' boat !

It's a CV ?
I'll look at pictures again ...

EDIT ...
Looks like a CVX to me ...

Ya it's a CVX Gregg. The only reason it's not sitting in my driveway is thus. Me'n my bro David got to Gulfliner a lil after they opened @ 9am. I asked my buddy Steve which trailer we were talkin about. He took us outside & sorta randomly pointed at one. I said, Uh Steve that one's got a boat on it ... He said yeah I know, I already told you that. I said huh?

Oh well. Rather than wait around for him to figure out what to do (because he forgot) we headed up to Sorrysota sans trailer. Too bad cuz personally I believe hauling an empty trailer along when you go look at a boat that needs one is a powerful buying tool. 'Specially if'n the boat's been for sale awhile.

Nope! There will be no thoughts of even touching the cvx 'til the Baja is right. Hate to blaspheme but in this particular scenario the Baja is a much more sound hull? Sorry ...

Doug I'm always happy to accept donations of aluminum trim parts in case you end up parting out that CVX!  ;)

Looks like a great deal on your end though and that looper should treat you well.

Hey Ray I'll chop up a wrecked V153 or a rotten 163 but don't think I could sleep at night if'n I sawed up a cvx16. What're ya offerin for the parts btw ...

Yeah the looper tests just fine on muffs. Gotta much meaner bark than my 90. Something I forgot to do was to shift it into fwd & reverse to test the gearcase. Don't let me fergit ...?
