mercruiser I/O trim sensor

Both gimbal housings i have from donor boats have hydraulic trim position sensor.
this seems overly complex, my question is, would i be better off finding one with sensors mounted on the gimbal ring ?

My Hydraulic trim sensor works fine, just make sure you get all the air bled out of it.
