Got the CV23 out for the first time
« on: June 09, 2013, 11:05:59 AM »
Was a good day. Took the wife and mother in law out on the st. croix on Saturday. Boat ran great. Definitely need to get the steering cable done! I love having a table in the boat!

Jason, the water level looks high on the St. Croix. How are boating conditions? Debris free?

St croix is always debris free. But yea it was high but still below boat ramps in Hudson.

That looks like the Arcola train bridge. How far north did you go?
Yea having some room to move around as well as a table and place to take a snooze, listening to the water slapping the hull would be great but probably not much water slapping or traffic I bet.

Not sure what that bridge is called but it's as far north as you can go on the St. Croix! The river north of the Stillwater bridge is shallow and not well marked. The river must be at least 3-4' above normal and the depth finder was reading 8-9' most of the way. When the water is high like this, it's the perfect time to go up there. By far the best part of the St. Croix river. Oh, also with the new bridge construction there is a new "no-wake" zone for about a mile just south of the old Stillwater bridge. Well patrolled too!

That is the Arcola bridge then. I camped just north of there years ago. Got there by boat. There were large boats in that area at the time.
Is it marked in some way? I seem to recall something about zebra mussels and not being able to pass some point.
Yes, no barges so no buoys.

Is that bridge used any more? You are right, you can't pass that point to keep the zebra mussels from getting up river. You can launch your boat north of there but I know it gets really shallow towards Taylors Falls.

Looks like some calendar picture contenders there! Glad you had a great day. Ours was full of graduation parties. Hopefully we'll be able to put together a group river run soon!

That was really interesting. I remember hearing about the young woman falling. 200 feet... Yikes.

The spot under the bridge is a popular spot for weddings - if it does not rain, and the wedding gets delayed because of the noise when a train goes over the track.

In the 1960's and 1970's, I would go well beyond this bridge, past William O'Brian State Park, and even to Taylor's Falls in the spring. The river winds, narrows, there are hidden sand bars, and an occasional clunk when the skeg hits something under the water.

There is a landing at the end of my road that I have used to switch trailers around. Too bad I can not put in there and head down river. Well I probably could with the Jet, but could not return.
