Let's just paint the trailer!
« on: June 13, 2013, 08:52:58 PM »
After Ross got it sand blasted, primed with metal etching primer, and some duratec primer on the visible parts, waiting a week for warm and dry weather, today was the day.
I don't think it looks too bad, but he found out why I like powder coating.

Ya'll have to talk to the painter, although if ya like the color I know where you can get 1/2 gallon of paint. It should have taken 3 quarts, so we got a gallon. The tack coat went fine, but Ross ran over his arm on the creeper (He'll have to explain) and the color coat was kinda "skimpy", so there's a little left over.

Based on some I have seen, I don't think is its. Most I've seen do not have the center frame rail that runs up to the tongue. The only markings I saw on it was "OKT" I googled it and all I found after a quick look was that they made Semi trailers. No serial numbers etc. It is steel. Not sure if all Glastron trailers were aluminum or not.

Yes, painting laying on your back does bite! If you raise the trailer too high, then you have problems painting the top. Too low and you are too close.
I did run over my arm with the creeper. Somehow I got some meat pinched between one of the casters and the concrete floor. Needless to say, it was painful.
Trailer turned out well for the most part. Being the rookie painter that I am, there are a few runs but when Jerry handed me the paint gun, I expected worse. :D There is some added "texture" from the Cottonwood trees that decided since it was not raining, they would shed. Always something....
Thanks again Jerry for your assistance and sharing some of your expertise!
Looks 100% better regardless
Now, where can I get some stickers?

Just to give this some perspective, do you know how heavy that paint gun gets after 5 hours? It’s why I have mine powder coated, I couldn’t do it.

Jason there was a set of fenders on CL the other day. IF I remember one fender on the trailer was pretty bent.
I think this has become an addiction.

Let me know if you find some. I need two. I was looking at new ones but can't find an exact match. Might have to swap out all 4.

Easily 5 hours. Painting underneath and letting it get tacking (break time) shooting another coat and another plus mixing the material in between. It is not what I would call easy. but I enjoyed most of it. That doesn't include the additional priming Jerry did and having to "scuff" the entire thing before shooting.

Lookin good Ross. Nice job!

I have a spot on my trailer I gotta pay some attention to soon. Why it rusted there, of all places, god only knows. Opposite side's fine?! My hubs are startin to look a lil crunchy too, so they'll need replaced soon.
