Having had tires that hydroplaned in wet weather, and slipped in wet conditions and snow, no price is too great for a tire that can avoid an accident, and last 50,000 miles or more in doing so.

I use RMF auto in Hudson for my tire mounting. With disposal, and everything else, $40 sounds about right Dave for a pair.

I mount a lot of my tires myself but can't do lower profile tires or on wheels where you don't want to scratch up the rim. I did the 17" cop car wheels. No balance though but no shakes either!

The first picture reminds me of many many tires we used to use on the farm - we were always reusing tires for equipment that were questionable for "road use", it was always surprising how long those still worked (some from old wagons (which took the most sunlight abuse and look very much like that picture) still pump up and roll even though we don't actively farm any longer).

We always had our own tire changer and balancer - still prefer to use that equipment today yet. But...I married into a family where my father-in-law owns a tire business, so sometimes instead of getting tires from Sam's club or even Fleet (since I'm generally a relative cheapskate) and mounting them myself, we occasionally receive tires and mounting from him now as family gifts - which I greatly appreciate - just was an adjustment not to do them myself. But I have to say, one of the brands he's had good luck with on vehicles - and as a result us as well - has been the KUMHO brand. I had never heard of them before that, and was personally a little leery about how I felt about them, but I have to admit they've turned out to be pretty good on our vehicles.

Of course everyone's mileage may vary (pun intended).   :)

What is nice about Discount Tires is that free tire rotations are included. I even had a slow leak they fixed for nothing after two years since they mounted the tires.

I have Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S high performance tires on the Celica now and they have over 50,000 miles on them. This fall plan to get a new set of tires and try to get by with them over the winter instead of switching back to the winter tires.
