Donrh had already replaced the transom in my GT-150 when I bought it, thankfully.  Here's the thread he started that dealt with the replacement;

It appears your transom goes all the way across, is that right?  Some of the later GT's used a smaller one just in the middle, but I like the idea of spreading the weight/torque/etc. over a wider area and tying in to the sides as well.  I thought long and hard about using composites for the stringers and floor, but it would have DOUBLED the material cost.  Jerry and several others make a good point on the original set up lasting this long, and I plan on taking much better care of it from here on out!

My CV's transom was OK, except for the speedo pilot tube wasn't sealed, water got in and rotted wood.
Looks like the same thing happened to your motor mount holes.
Another sore spot on G/C is the drainage of hull, drain hole were 2 to 3 inches above bottom of hull.
Water pooled even if tipped all the way up, splashed up on rear floor wood and rotted wood floor.

I was on a budget so fancy materials were out of the question, plus didn't want $10000 into a boat only worth $3000.
I saw floor was bad when I got boat but the rotted corner of transom was a surprise and I was pressed for time and money.
Money had to go for other things, trailer, steering, etc. etc.

I would love to find a perfect 1973 apricot CV16 and rebuild with composite, but would have to win the Loto first ... LOL
With the help of some members ( Jeff, Ross, Jim ) it was done (new transom & rear floor) in one day and is done way better then G/C's did it ...

Well, the deck came off. I dug out all of the old wood. Wow! I'm lucky I didn't lose the 1150!! (and the boat)

I made a template and cut it to fit the area that the old transom came from. I still need to do some more clean up but am hopeful that I will get it done soon. I am going to replace the stringers and  floor as well. I never guessed that I would be in to it this much this summer. It would have been nice if this happened in September!

Looks like you'll be back on the water in no time. I like your pulley system.

Gotta ask. What's this?

That is a 1960 Corvair.  My wife rode in this car as a kid.  It was her Godfathers car.  He owned it since new and when he passed away his son gave it to my wife and we restored it.  Check it out at www.cathyscorvair.com

I was going to suggest a "temporary patch" for the season but I see its too late and you're into it now. That is one of the worst transoms I've see!. I was also going to suggest a partial replacement such as Rich and Jim have done.
One of those multi tools are quickly becoming a favorite of us working on old boats. You can get variouis blades for them and control your depth of cut. I got one for Christmas or B day. Dont remember. What I like about the one I have is that its tooless blade changing.

Well, I am in to this pretty deep. I picked up a sheet of 3/4x4x8 Marine plywood and cut out the new transom pieces.

Then I used some Liquid nails and spread it out with a trowel so I had complete coverage and put the two pieces together. I used a couple of tires and weighted it down as good as I could (stupid me, forgot the cinder blocks). And yes, those are morels in the background of the picture by the boat seat and rub rail. I got those on Wednesday. There are some things that take back seat to the boat!

I glassed and sealed the transom and stuck it in the boat today. I am moving right along. It should be ready for Iowa!
