Joe, I had a small 4x8 utility trailer that I could never see behind me - especially when I was driving a truck. Even with the Volvo wagon, it was too short in length to see unless I was turning. I found some 1/2 inch steel round tubing and welded a foot on each side at the rear corners. I bought those day-glo curb markers that everyone uses in winter so you can find your driveway when it's all covered with snow - those things dropped right down in the tubing and gave me tall "flags" to see in the mirrors and when reversing. Surprising how much more "maneuverable" the small trailer became when you could see things as they happened, instead of having to wait until they came into view.
