Navionics
« on: July 17, 2014, 10:01:33 PM »
I have to rave about this app. I got it for my iPhone but I am sure you can get it for the miscellaneous brands as well.  ;)

I have heard good things about it in the past and after hearing Joe having good luck with it I had to spend the $10 to get it.

For $10 you can download every lake, river, ect water map for the U.S. It shows very detailed depth maps as well as channel markers and other marked Buoys. The nice thing is on a lake when you see a danger buoy in the middle of the lake it hard to know what is the danger area. With this app you can see it. It's amazing how accurate it is.

While you are driving the map moves and gives you a red line showing where you are going and a yellow of where you have been.

Even worked when I did not even have service as seen in the pics!!

Also lets you save your "track". Gives top speed, total distance, and time duration.

Another cool feature is that you can download sections of the maps so even if you don't have service ya still get detailed maps.

Did you download just a small area or a larger region?

I downloaded three sections of map that cover the St. Croix River Mississippi River from Prescott down to Lake Pepin and the Mississippi and Minnesota River up to Minneapolis and Savage.
The two smaller sections were aprox 2MB each, and the large section that covers all of St. Paul and Minneapolis was about 8MB

I found / bought the app, but I'm having trouble downloading the maps... I sent them a e-mail looking for support.  It's not working on my tablet or my Samsung S4 mini.  Grrr

Joe and I were not able to load maps either this morning on our iPhones. We think their server was down. Looks like it's working now though.

I got an e-mail from Navionics saying they were experiencing server troubles.  Everything should be back up now.

All charts can be seen on Navionics website but are not live so tides and wind speeds will not show up. Also won't show your current location but at least you can view the charts.

I took a look at their website not expecting that they would have any info for Michigan on it and boy am I impressed. Not only big waters but even the lake across the street from me. That's awesome.
