Got this nice 73 50 hp short shaft with power tilt and a new 15" prop for $400.
130 psi comp in both cyl and started right up.
Gonna put this on our 62 LARSON playboy

So your replacing an 80HP with a 50 HP? Not that the 50 is not a good motor, and a nice find, but isn't that going the wrong direction performance wise?

its on a 15' Larson (62 playboy) which is basically a flat bottom boat, at least at the stern.
it has no rating plate but originally came with a 40 i think.
it handles really weird withe the 80 hp long shaft merc on it, tried a jack plate to get it up higher but made it handle worse, i think its too much weight. and boat has a short transom. top of all that merc don't start good when its hot.
so i decided since i stumbled across a great deal on a short shaft which seem to be really hard to find i would just call it. it lives on a small lake so really don't need to be over powered anyways.

That's a dead ringer for the boat I learned to ski behind. My Dad's had a 33hp Johnson. Learned when I was a kinder-gardener, and afraid of the propeller.

I've seen it in person. Really nice for is age. My first boat was a 67 Larson All American. Basket case when I got it but redid most of it except for the transom.
42ish mph with a 50hp merc and no trim. It was a good handling boat. Only time I felt a little unsafe in it was on Minnetonka once. Big a*s waves, over the bow.
