recommendations for gaskets

 where do some of you get your gaskets for rebuilds? I have seen some online but most come from overseas-I did see a American Volvo place here in the US that has some sets ( 1973 V 179-130 aq C ) I live in a small town and have not tried a auto parts store or dealership yet.

I just checked some of our local DIY parts places and no one I've talked to yet has it, I did find a place in Florida that has a upper and lower set and I think I will get it there-still will take 1 to 2 weeks but that's better than 4-6 weeks with the out of country places-the price is better than Volvo USA also ( but probably not the quality )

Found this info online, might help the Volvo guys.  Most engines in Glastron IO's can be crossed in parts reference because they are american made engines similar to cars/trucks.  Unfortunately I just can't locate where the Volvo engine was used elsewhere, maybe it was?  So for parts and gaskets, maybe online is the best choice?


 AQ130A: Used with the 100 and 250 series drive, ran 9.5:1 compression ratio and used Stromberg carbs. Rated at 130 hp.

AQ130B: Same as above but ran 8.4:1 compression ratio. Rated at 115 hp.

AQ130C: Used with the 250 and 270 series drive, ran 9.5:1 compression ratio and used Solex 44PA1 carbs. Rated at 130 hp.

AQ130D: Used with the 280 series drive, ran 9.0:1 compression ratio and used Solex 44PA2 carbs. Rated at 130 hp.

Found this gem of info as well, seems most of the parts were used on a car.

My Volvo Penta is an AQ130C and most hard parts off a 1975 240 series street motor will transfer. You will find out real quick what was used on the boats vs. the cars. Many dumb looks thrown my way looking for hard to find parts.

Yes it is true-many parts of my engine aq130c are interchangeable with B20 Volvo motor car engine block parts and sometime B18s that are also used in cars. finding what fits is the hard part, I have cruised forums to find some info. Just yesterday I ordered a pan gasket from Rock Auto for a car engine for $3.50---if you buy the "boat" gasket it is $50.00 and it takes 6 weeks to get here from Sweden. I did use the Volvo Penta site online to look at expanded drawings to find the part numbers---so much is discontinued and that explains the high prices on E Bay. If I ever decide to give this project up or if it dies....I'm parting it out and selling it on E-Bay! you may not get what you put into it but a flywheel or bellhousing for 200. to 300.----I'm rich!

Have you tried a local machine shop to see if they can get you a gasket kit for it?

Thank you for that tip, I did successfully order a top gasket kit and a pan gasket a few days ago
