1988 Merc 115 tilt/trim up, but no down

Has anyone encountered a mid 90's Merc 115 where the tilt and trim functions go up, but not down.

When we use the relief value manually motor goes down.  When we use the up switch on the throttle lever.  Trims up, then tilts up normal

We know the switch connection from the throttle lever back to the solenoid is good, as when we press the up button, the up solenoid clicks.

Is the little motor trim and the big motor tilt?  No way both motors die at exact same time. So I think must be solenoid or wire from solenoid to motors below.

If you have any wisdom on this situation, please chime in.

update: poking for voltage readings, and got it to intermittently go down.  Motors are good, now think its internal contacts of solenoid.

Solenoid is bad.  Just went through this, again.   The contact disk is about dime sized, and the mushrooms on the stud ends are just small flats.  There is no provision internally to rotate the disk, so in time they get burned out on the small contact areas.

We ended up replacing both , since they are so easy to get to, and since one was acting up, the other is likely not too far behind it.  Good to go.
