The Fest takes place Friday, July 29, 5 - 9 pm. We are hoping that a number of Glastron boats (10?15?) - vintage if possible - could parade past/around on the river between the bridges as the Fest-goers view the activities from the riverbank. This should happen during a set period of time; perhaps 6 - 7 or 7:30, or whatever would work best for your boaters. Providing boat rides for Fest-goers is not expected nor encouraged; the liability is too complicated.
The Riverfront Fest is an annual summer festival celebrating the Mississippi River and summer in the city. This year the Fest takes place on Friday July 29 along West River Parkway between the Plymouth and Broadway bridges, just above Boom Island. The Fest involves music (live bands), exhibits promoting recreational river use, biking, water quality, activities for kids, food trucks, craft beers.
Here's more information about the Minneapolis Riverfront Partnership, the primary sponsor of this Fest along with the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board: http://www.minneapolisriverfront.org/ (http://www.minneapolisriverfront.org/)
Boats will launch and stage from boom island ramp and docks at 6:00 and parade on to the water at 6:30. Parking in the boom Island launch site or at the lumberyard across the street.
I would like to make a slow parade up one side and down the other with our banner displayed. Then were free to run the river until 7:30 or so.
If your interested in bringing your boat down for a Friday evening parade and in water boat show, come help promote CGOAMN by calling Jerry Sellner 651-214 7712

Sounds fun! We would all have to launch at boom island as the upper St. Anthony lock is closed permenetly due to the asian carp. Would spots be reserved for us at ramp?
-
Looks like a nice launch, not much parking though ...
-
I will see about getting parking blocked off, I think we can launch at Camden launch also, I will get more information today
Jerry
-
i think we would be in, GT-150 and 91 1900 (with retro flake job)
the Boom Island launch is really nice, Keisha and i were just checking out that part of the river as we are planning on "crashing" rock the garden which will be at boom island next Saturday.
there is a launch on Soo ave (right next to the 42nd st bridge. we will launch there next saturday but conditions are not great.
decent concrete ramp but no dock, gravel shore with lots of boulders and not much parking.
i did not see the Camden ramp but we were up that far, we saw people beached on the island right in front of the park.
water depth was good that far up, but we could not get to 694.

Just talked to the exhibit coordinator for the Minneapolis Riverfront Fest and she said we can use the old Scheer brothers lumber yard lot for parking. This would handle all the parking we could ever need. There can be a park board staff person on site at boom island if necessary. Staging would take place at boom island launch area but you may launch up river at Camden launch also. There will be bands playing throughout the evening and we would be on the water running around during the changing of the bands. 6:00-7:00 or 6:30-7:30. I thought the 6:30 start would be better for people trying to get their boats here if coming after their work day. Come support the club and help gain recognition at the same time. I need to give the exibit coordinator a boat count as soon as possible.
PLEASE CALL ME WITH CONFIRMATION if you can make it. Jerry Sellner 651-214-7712 I would like to have as many boats as we can get.
Please pass the word and post on Facebook and other social media. I will see if I can get them to announce the club and each boat and owner as we parade by. It will depend on PA system Etc.

Sounds like lots of fun.
Kelly & I will be there with the 1968 V174.
-
I'll be there with the CV16SS. Probably just me. I'll likely come right after work so get to the ramp around 4-4:30 and will just hang out on the water and cruise around for a while.
-
We will have GT 150 and 1900 there

Hey everybody! I just had a great conversation with Jim and I'm happy to hand over the big CGOAMN banner that I had made years ago. I have that and a few other things that might be useful for this event. I'm going to try to attend, but it depends on the work schedule that I have at that time.
I'm looking forward to re-connecting with everyone.
BTW... if anyone wants to get ahold of me, feel free to text me at 6512605266. or you can e-mail me at bbergstrom260@gmail.com
Thanks everyone!

I am bringing the 74 CV16SS not the 23.
-
Erik Barrett
1977 SSV 176
With Jeff & Erik we have 9 confirmed.
-
Going to have to bring the cvx18 instead the 23 is in the boat shop for a new cover will not be done in time
-
We checked out the ramp at Boom Island.
It's a great ramp with a small channel to the river. No current!
There is plenty of parking there and over-flow in the old Scherer Lumber lot kitty-corner.
The concert will be across the river on the west bank.
Let's get a few more volunteers and show off the club!

I brought the GT160 down. It was never out last year. Didn't even have to charge the battery and it started. I'll be there if all goes well. We may need some help getting it in and out.

It would be great to see you guys.
I was wondering...after the modifications, maybe this would be called something like GT-160+, or GT-160 deluxe :-)

So what time are we meeting and what time does the boat parade start?
-
The parade starts at 5 I think. I'm planning on being at the ramp around 4:30.
-
Not sure if I can get there that early. Fest starts at 5. Sounded like parade would be more in the middle of the event.
I have not heard anything from Mr. Sellner personally.
Jerry's earlier post.
"I thought the 6:30 start would be better for people trying to get their boats here"
-
Just called Jerry. he said 6 would be great. so we have everyone in the water by 6:30. He has 2 boats to get in, and I may need help. I'm planning on 5:30 so I know I'm ready.
-
6 is perfect

SEE YOU THERE
-
OK here's the latest. Jim stopped down there and the volunteers at the ramp said the break in the program, which is when they will announce us won't be until 7:30, but we can come any time. Jim is coming early because he has to go get a second boat, and Jerry Sellner has to put 2 boats in too, so we're coming around 5, but if you can't make it until 7 you can still make the parade.

It was a good outing until I started taking on water, it was 2" over the floor!
24" crack in bottom takes on water fast, just made it to landing before engine was under water.
It's fixed now;
-
Jim, how it develop the crack? Did you fix the hull from the outside or inside?
-
I think trailer roller under thin area of bottom weakened it and a rough ride over several wakes caused crack.
Cut out floor and fixed from inside.
Modified trailer so rollers are closer to outside of hull.
