I'm constantly getting emails from Photobucket advertising their new rates for 3rd party hosting yet as far as I can see all my linked photos are still working when I go to my rebuild posts and I haven't given them a dime. I haven't actually logged into my Photobucket account for probably a year. Anyone know what's going on with them?

My Photobucket account is not working.  Even if they reinstated the free account I would not use them; the way they went about a no notice fee based system was really a poor consumer decision.  Really hard to say how long they will be around.

Should we (administration, really), be thinking about hosting photos in our own cloud network??

We lost a lot of great photos in this thread alone:

The site already has unlimited storage, photos uploaded as attachments are ours, stored in the site and were unaffected by the Photobucket ransom.

'Our own cloud network' would equate to a private cloud...(very) expensive, and someone would need to figure out how to generate static hyperlinks for photos, maintain security, user accounts, etc, etc.

So, we've always had a solution.

I've only got one email from them, the day they shut down 3rd party hosting.
Nice heads up on there part ...
Tried to get some pictures I didn't save, got the "3rd party hosting disabled" picture on most of them on there site, logged into my account ?
Between ad's , pop up's and redirectors my browser locked up three or four times !
Don't remember exact price to unlock, but was something crazy like $60 per month.

Was my fault for uploading alot of forum pictures to Photobucket over the years ...
Trying to repair threads ... SLOW ... Frustrating ... #@%& !

This is what I don't get though - all my photo links from Photobucket are still working here and on CGOA Main and were never shut down yet I'm not paying them anything. I really shouldn't complain.  ;D

I think they only shut down the people with pictures that have a lot of view counts. My links are all broken as well. I can still get into my account to view my pictures but like Gregg said it's a pain with all the ads so I gave up. I had all my pictures copied on my computer at least!

Oh well, Was a good idea at the time.

Probably best to not say anything Rich, chalk it up to being lucky.  I would copy every photo off to somewhere lest you be held hostage for your pics.
