Title: Engine help for non member with CV18 SS
Post by: 75starflight on July 10, 2018, 08:10:33 PM
I am needing some help for a person with a CV18 with a 455 olds located in Kearney, NE. Here is what is happening. His name is Logan.

This is the message I just got. Oh and he has a quadrajet on it.

"Still having engine problems. I'm going to remove the fuel tank, clean it and replace all the fuel lines. I'm kinda thinking it could be the hei coil or power wire feeding the disto. It just cuts out and dies after half or more throttle in a few seconds."

If anyone has a thought please post and I will pass it along to him. Hopefully he will pop in sometime.

He said it restarts right away.

I suspect ignition is weak, the fuel well on the qjet are substantial.  Fuel starvation generally produces a stumble, cough, then die.  When that happens, restart would be difficult due to well being empty.  I'd suggest monitoring the DC input to the HEI, if ok, likely the coil or driver.  They make a kit with everything for the HEI for under $100.  Cleaning the tank, and replacing fuel lines is never a bad idea, especially in boats.
