Title: Opps I've Done It Again...Part 2
Post by: Glastronjohn18 on May 12, 2019, 11:05:59 PM
I'm starting this year's boat projects a little late but as they say "better late than never". Betty is coming up for Memorial day weekend and is expecting a boat in the water. Last year I rebuilt the transom and repowered with the 351. This year's projects include finding a leak in the transom area, reupholster the seats and replace the floor, flotation boxes and stringers.

Here we are back in the garage. I pulled the engine to make finding the leak easier as it appears to be in the area below the drive shaft.

Seeing as time is short and I have an appointment with the upholsterer for the first week of June I'll start with rebuilding the front bucket seat bases and cushion bases. I'll R and R the floor when the seats are in the shop.
As you can see the cushion bases are soft, rotten and in 1 case split.

Although the seat buckets are fiberglass there are 2 pieces of plywood sandwiched between the "glass bottom providing a place to staple the upholstery and as reinforcement for the seat pedestal. . The pic shows the original seat with the plywood sandwich.

Here is the new wood.

Here is one of the finished cushions, ready for the weekend.

Next up is find the leak but that's it for now.

Hope ya can get her done in time !
If ya can't hope ya can still make it to the meet.
I'm not much of a camper, but it not that bad considering how much time you spend in the hotel room.
My only advice is .. Get a tent tall enough that you can stand up in … LOL
CVX looks great !

I'll do the floor, etc. while the seats are at the upholstery shop. If time is short I'll put the floors off till next year. Betty, myself and the CVX will be at the meet this year!

Thanks for the tip on the tent. As I'm 6'2" I may have to get a 2 story tent.

I'm pretty short (5 ft. 7 in. and shrinking) and my 4 person dome tent with a queen size air bed sucks !
Been watching youtube video's on tents, looks like a 8 or 10 person cabin tent would work.
From what I've found so far .. 4 person tent hold 1 person. 8 person tents hold 2 persons when you put a queen size air bed in them.
Walmart has 8 /10 person cabin tents for about $90 to $125.

Great news to hear you and Betty are planning to attend.  Put the floors off till next year, we all know what happens when you start such a project, you find more wrong.  Clean and use this year, enjoy the limited summer.   As for tents, I bought a copper canyon eureka.  10' x 10' x 7' tall. Bit pricey, but had it now for 12 years.  I use cots, they never deflate.   If you forget anything, let me know, Tim and I always pack extra stuff. Could use the RV, but more fun to tent with group.
