End of last season it was taking on water

A crack in the hull on the port side at the edge of the transom.
Upon investigation the port side gusset delaminated.

After several days of working on Keisha and Jake’s 99 Passat we got all new suspension and a new axel installed so the GT is now in the shop.
Turns out the floor was delaminated half way up.

Cut that out. Stringers are good but it seams the cabinet plywood was not the right choice as the vineer pulls off.
So it should be an “easy fix”...
New gussets and glue the floor back in.

Your boat is lucky to have such a caring owner. Hopefully the repair will go well, and you get back on the water soon.
-
At least your not missing a WARM and SUNNY weekend on the water, far from it.

So you think the wood was the problem and not the fiberglass / resin ?
The glass stuck to wood, but wood delaminated ?
-
That is what I had happen to the floor in Phoenix. Cabinet plywood delaminated. Fiberglass and resin tough as nails.

I spoke too soon

The moral of the story is if you’re not using composite...
at the very least use marine plywood.
Now on to Plan B, not sure what that is yet.

OH OH .. I used exterior ply for transom and rear floor ..
Guess I'll be using marine ply when replacing floor !
How the heck did it rot that fast Joe ?
Is it about 5 years old ?
-
Looks like I will be pulling the new transom out of the CVZ-18 when I have time and using marine plywood instead. I better check the transom on Phoenix when I get her ready for the year. Good thing I am planning on doing floor and stringers in the fall.

I suspect it’s related to the cabinet plywood, any thing that is not protected looks questionable

I told Joe it’s surprising that SeaDeuce’d is in rough shape considering how much time it has spent airborne. Lol ;-p

YA .. Guessing it spent a lot of time in the water compared to my boat.
and did spend quite a bit of time in the air !

You used that boat more in the last 6 years then most people use their boat in 20. That Transom got a hell of a work out.

Thanks...
Yes it did
And though it makes me sad that I will not fix it (at least not now)
I can truly say I have no regrets.
Well ok, had I used composite.
Whatever...
Just need to get the motor back in the bal harbor so we can go camping

What’s wrong with the motor in your bal harbor?

Rear seals leaking really bad, I would leave a rainbow every time I left the ramp and I had to wash the Bilge every other time we used it.

At least you didn’t hurt it.
