Some of you may have seen on Facebook. I am going to make a mold of my dash for the CV16 V8 project. Mine was busted up pretty bad and so is both of the ones Joe had. I got one of the ones Joe had that wasn't as busted up as mine. I plan to make 2 molds. One will be the factory stock layout and one will be smooth where the gauges and switches are so you can use it for any gauge layout and for other CV-16 outboards. Also the dash will be smooth it will not have the textured finish. They do make paint that you can spray that will give it a texture for people that want that.
First I glued it back inso one piece so I could work with it. Then I headed to Express Composites to find out what I would all need for supplies. I was planning on glassing the entire back of the dash to make it more ridged so I could make a mold. They suggested that I just pour foam it, which I ended up doing and it worked great.
They set me up with all the supplies I would need to make the mold.
Below id the products they set me up with. They are in the order in which they will be applied.
1. Clean part and glue cracks together. I used 3M panel bond to do this. I taped it all back together and then glued the back side.
2. Taped off all the openings and taped up the ends so the foam would not pour out. Then poured foam in.
3. Body work to all cracked areas and straightened out areas with low spots of holes. You want to make the part your moulding perfect so the mold is good.
4. I will prime the entire dash. Then sand and fine check and repair any imperfections.
5. Paint the part.
6. Hand wax then spray PVA mold release agent.
7. Brush and tool on the Adtech resin. It is a thicker almost paste like resin. Cabsil can be added to it to thicken it up so you can tool it into corners and tight areas where you can't get glass to lay.
8. Lay up 3-4 layers of glass over the Adtech to make a good firm mould.

Very nice! Should be a direct fit for 74-76 cv16ss and cv16v8. I like that you are doing the flat option as well. Mine only has a couple cracks as of now but good to know there are replacement options for the future!

I had to rebuild the dash panel on my CV-16 (Super?) so I laminated the inside with epoxy and kevlar cloth. What better material can there be for a "James Bond" boat? The upper right corner was totally missing, so I made a mold from the upper left corner and fitted the new piece to the upper right corner.

Finally got some more done on the dash today. It's in primer now. Next is final sand then I will prep it and paint it to get a good smooth finish to make the mold from.

The mold is done I have some clean up to do and then I will be able to start making a few. I am also going to work on making a smooth dash, meaning where the gauges are and the switches will be smooth so you can place what ever gauges or switches you want.
