Definitely not the kind of place for me. Yuppies! I like Jerry G's man cave much better!

The guy driving the golf cart should probably learn to look forward when driving around Ferraris and Maseratis.

With my two cars, 12 years and 9 years old, I would be the laughing stock of the place. People would be taking me to lunch, asking if I wanted their hand me down clothes, and me offering rides to town. Guess that would not be all that bad.

I have room next to my Man Cave to put up several dozen more, I'm sure for $40,000 we could start with some nice units. If anyone needs my address to start sending the cash just let me know...

Do we have to wear those silly cheese hats?

Great place and idea but for 40k I can put up a 30 x 40 metal building with 12 walls and a 20 center roof. That's on a slab with plumbing and a natural gas heater installed. I did the electrical in my neighbors and he's about 38K in to it with shelving, U-coat-it on the floor, 80 gal compressor with connections around the building and a center beam mounted 3000 lb electric hoist that slides the length of the building. Just for fun the other day we hoisted his 4-wheeler up and just backed the truck under it. Too easy.

Glad I never added mine up but when I priced the slab for an addition to almost double the size, they quoted me 7500.00 Forget that! If I ever do that, I'll sub some of it out and do some of it myself. Geesh!

Love it Jason!... I want one :)    Our problem is space to build... I'm lucky to have about 10' on each side of our house before the property line, with no room or access into the back yard.  Not sure what I'm going to do for future storage, but I definitely need some.

Nice Jerry, what I would give to have space for a man/glastron cave like that.  Local codes require me to have at least 5' around structure to property line, which in my backyard, would make it so small it's not worth it.  And our main garage is super small.  Would like to someday get a small parcel to put a metal building on... but land is just crazy expensive.  In my dream house, the garage would be as big as the house... I'm jealous!

one word ... "variance".  Local codes here in AZ will let you build 24 inches away from the property lines.  Long as your neighbor does not have a problem with it.  I have built several.

True Chris, good idea I had not thought of that, but even with those dimensions it wouldn't help me much in this case... not for a true Glastron Cave anyways.  Maybe for a place to put the bikes, lawnmower, etc.... I'll have to check into it.

Or move.

Definitely check into a variance.  For most subdivisions, they come with deed restrictions that govern your structure placement on the property ... and also for most subdivisions, they fail to renew the deed restrictions.  If you're in an area that is fully occupied and land-sales and developers have moved on, there's a good chance the deed restrictions have expired.  Usually a check with the county engineer can confirm if active deed restrictions are in place, or if they have expired.
And yes, be courteous to your neighbors.  It might be good to have them write out acceptance of your proposal before you apply for a variance.  Municipal offices are often very understanding depending on the proposed use and how old the property is.  My house was built in 1925 - when very few people drove cars.  The house on my right still has the original carriage house.  The house on my left was allowed to add a 2-car garage all the way up to the property line - provided that he gutter the roof and direct any watershed back onto his property.
