Title: CVX-16 Restoration with 200hp Mercury EFI
Post by: LetsBoat on January 07, 2019, 09:46:39 PM
New member thanks for adding me. This is my 1978 CVX 16 Carlson. Currently removing floors, stringer, bulkhead and transom. Plan is to sale my 77 Mercury 150hp tower of power and rig with my 2000 Mercury 200hp EFI. Is anyone in this group running a 2.5 v6 on a cvx16? Also Im trying to come up with a structural design to hold and run the big v6. Im not looking for top speed out of this boat just want it to be strong and reliable. Thanks for any input, advice and pictures.

Welcome to the forum.  A 200 hp V-6 might be a bit much for a 16.  I had a Johnson V-6 175 on my CVX-16, it was a bit tricky at WOT.  That motor would be a good match for a CVX-20.  Certainly not trying to talk you out of it, but the 16 is rated for around 120 hp.  The heavier motor also takes away capacity in the boat, so it depends on your intended use.  Grinding out all the old glass is really the worst part of the job IMHO.  Looks like your nearly there in the tearout.
