Title: Newbie near Lake Minnetonka

My name is Jason and I just bought my first Glastron boat from Bayflite73 here on the forums. Not only is this my first Glastron, but it is also my first boat as well. I am looking forward to taking it out for the first time this season. I plan on changing the oil and filter along with the lower unit oil. A new impeller is in line as well. Are there any other things I should be looking to do before I take it out for my first ride?

Glad you made it over hear. You will from now on be an addict like the rest of us. We get out to Lake minnetonka a few times over the summer.

As far what you want to do before dropping her in the water........You pretty much got it covered. Just don't forget to put the drain plug in at the ramp!! I am pretty sure it has happened to all of us at some point.

Post by: TrailRated on April 25, 2013, 09:14:20 PM: Thanks all for the welcomes. I have not even taken her out on the water yet and I am addicted to it! I picked up the oil filter, gear oil, and a impeller kit today.. Will get some engine oil next.. SAE 30 in my Mercruiser 140 hp I/O correct?

This will probably get a debate going as there is marine engine oil and filters but i don't think it makes a difference.

My wife Kelly & I are both from Mound. We love Minetonka.
We live in Golden Valley now & sometimes hit Tonka after work at night.
$5.00 burgers at Lord Fletchers on Mondays is a must!

If I remember right, Jim (Tonka Jim) is a Power Squadron member? and can probably be a great resource if its your first boat. There is a lot to learn, and you'll make mistakes...and know that that is ok.

Hmm...remember to put the drain plug in, but not until you get there...in MN its a 'no-no' to travel with the plug installed...make sure you have a good working bilge pump, and remember to put the outdrive up before you pull the boat out of the water.

We've all made those mistakes, it takes time.

Keep on the forums for group outings, it really does make it more fun.

Based on your 'TrailRated' username, I'm going to assumed you're a Jeep guy. I'm keeping my eyes on the new Cherokee...looks awesome and can tow my boat as well. I think that might replace the Avalanche eventually.

I always test mine after a long winter's storage...never know if a little ice broke something over the winter's hibernation.

We ran it for a couple seconds when I was showing to him and explaining how it was wired to the accessories switch last year at the Red Wing meet.
