Fall Boat Outings Mississippi run 9/19
« on: September 20, 2010, 03:14:46 PM »
GET YOUR BOATS WET!

We all know the weather is unpredictable for planning (Fall Boat Outings).

Please post even those last minute trips.  I just walked outside and it is 79 degrees and sunny with almost no wind.

Cool is ok as long as there is SUN.

I am an Hour + south of most of you.  It can be cold and raining at my home and warm and sunny in your area.

My preferred trip is a few hours on the water and if you add a boat friendly restaurant a little more time.

Jim and I talked last outing about a run from Ford dam up into Mlps, was done last year by some of the guys but I missed it and have never been that far up river.
News paper said there was work on removing more of the 35 bridge this month ...so might not be the right time to do it ...

Just me but ...
I like to have a little heads up for the weekend runs so I can plan a little ahead... Then adjust for weather or others best day/time.

OH ...
and I hate cold weather boating ...
( cold weather is any thing below 78 degress ... LOL )

I like time to plan also and may not be able to travel or attend last minute boat outings.  But I am fighting the end of the summer.  I am hoping for a nice fall and more boating fun.  Not ready to store the boat yet.

We are planning a Mississippi run on Sunday from Hidden Falls Ramp (a stone's throw south of the Ford Dam) and run up river.  Corps stop dredging about the 694 bridge in Fridley, so it makes for a fun run.  St Anthony locks are something to behold.  I think its something like a 50 ft drop (20 million gallons) in 90 seconds in the downstream lock.  We've done that run many times.  Nowhere really to tie off and eat though.  But a good spot to dock at a public park to eat north of DT.

Hidden Halls Regional Park has about 50 spaces that have never been all full when we launch there.  The eddys and the current play tricks while loading.  But with a group, help is always near.  No docks, but places to beach safely around the ramp.

We'll plan for 9am, will probably get there by 10 and get underway around 11.

Post your plans if your're interested...

Allan -

Lori and I could meet you for a trip up to Minneapolis.  We have been as far as the 35W bridge a couple of times before, but never through the next set of locks.  Sounds like fun.  We would put in the Minnesota river in Eagan and meet you at the Ford Dam lock.  Give me a call to coordinate a time, 651-485-9282.  - Brad

Allan, sunday the 26th?  "50 ft drop in 90 seconds"  The guy at the lock said it takes the same ammount of time to fill and empty.  10 minutes if I remember?  Ft snelling is where we started from early last august 3 miles or so down stream from hidden falls.

There is a ramp on the west side of the Mississippi between 41st & 42nd Streets at the north end of Washington Ave.
It's in a park but I don't know if there is a picnic area. Nice dock
Maybe Gregg will post a link to it. Please?

We could launch there, down river past Ford Dam & back.
I think the removal of bridge parts is by truck, should not bother river traffic.

I found it, I 94 & Dowling;

Yes the 26th.

The last time we went through was summer of '08.  The lower lock is the faster of the two and I recall those being the statistics.  I am getting older and my memory is the first thing to go...after reading it, that does sound kind of quick.  Guess we'll have to time it on Sunday to see how far off my recollection really is!!

Jason,
Did you install the carb from the SSV we cannibalized in NE Mpls?

well, right before that one came about I had my origininal "professionaly" rebuilt. So, I am going to try that first. The otherone will be my backup. I swapped distributors though with the one from the poor donor boat.
