Title: Winter projects for the boat
Post by: demian5 on October 04, 2022, 11:44:02 AM
Just put the boat away, over the winter ill change the drive fluid, the engine oil and filter, look at the plugs, cap and rotor. I only took it out 3 times so a total of 9 days (such a shame).

A couple other things I want to do that would benefit me next season:

I replaced my 898 merc rams with XD rams including the pump and lines.    It does not use the old reverse lock out.   I dont have all the part numbers, just that i took them off a Bravo one drive from a 27' boat.    Easy way would be to find clean used, fairly certain all new would be over $1000.00.  As for hesitation, I'd look   first at the accel pump discharge at the carb.   Could be pump, setting, or discharge jet clogged.     It should be a strong pulse of fuel.    Next would be timing, and advance.   A good timing light will show the setting and advance curve.  Less likely, but i have seen it, is the fuel well itself, is height correct and no fuel dumping  from bad top gasket or fuel vent?

Great info. I was told I could reuse my rams I just rebuilt.

And as far as any fuel leaking, no.

You can certainly use your current rams, but I think you need adapters at the pump because the fittings are different new to old.

I believe MerCruiser makes a kit for that, I pulled one out of a searay that I scrapped out, the older system uses 3/16 lines and fittings so the one I have is the new style pumps and a new set of lines that goes from the block directly to the pump all 3/16 fittings.
