Nauti Hawg
« on: July 27, 2016, 10:15:46 AM »
Not sure I spelled it correctly, but have wanted to go there the past two years, but never seem to get it done.   I was thinking Friday after Pepin or Saturday after Kini park.   Question is, is there a better day or time to arrive?   Have extra room in the Z if someone else besides Tim and I are going.   Looking for some local advice.  Maybe there are more highly recommended places?   Thanks all.

We go to the Hawg all the time. Great burger and beer! Nice patio to sit or inside if you want to get out of sun. Inside is kinda small though. If you go outside they give you a sm. cow bell that you ring when you hear your number. Can be crazy busy with bikers but hit or miss with what time of day. but usually always a good spot.

We go there quite a bit as well. I would say your best best would be midday on Friday. Weekends it is usually pretty busy if it is nice out. Between the Bikes, cars, boats and every once an awhile there is a float plane that pulls up.

Me Jess and the kids would probably join you.  After that we could go to the Pit and hang out before heading back to TI
I think this has become an addiction.

Just an FYI.

When you stop at Nauti Hog always try and park north of the stairs. Right in front of the stairs it is kind of rocky and if you go north a little it is more sand.  Also come straight in towards the stairs/ shore from the main river channel. There are wing dams north and south of it.  This is also a good practice any time you head towards shore. Wing dams typically run almost perpendicular with a slight angle downstream.

I think this has become an addiction.

Assuming Nauti is on the East bank, North side would be upriver correct?  Hopefully my Navionics ap can keep us off the wing dams, but it sounds like we will have someone to follow, likely since we will all pass through the lock at the same time.  Probably leave Pepin 3:30ish to head North?   Not sure about barge traffic, might we get hung up at the lock?   Should give us time, looking forward to it.   Open to all, just a spot on my checklist.

Correct Upriver is north

Download Marine Traffic in the app store it shows the barge Traffic.

Ya 3:30 sounds good maybe a little earlier even, depending on where we are and barge traffic.
I think this has become an addiction.

All times all relative, we have several hours at Pepin to discuss.  Just a thread to get the locals ideas of places to visit and decent eateries.   Never really heard anything good or bad about the bar/grill near the Island campground, though I knew a few of you went down there in 2014.  Not setting anyone's schedule, not in charge of anything or anyone but myself.
