Funny you mention that Hyperacme.  Snapped this photo of some chicken's the seller was raising.
That Chris Craft Lancer in the background of the one picture is a hardtop, only one of three made (he says).

rbay,

Clayton is a cool little town and home of the Antique Boat Museum. I was there for a couple of days in August for their Boat Show and got a tour of the area in this boat. Pardon Me is a Hacker designed custom, built by Hutchinson Boat Works in the Thousand Islands. 1948, 48' long and powered by a 2500 CI 1500 hp Packard PT Boat engine. The river is beautiful there and the homes on the islands look very nice.

I agree ford-bldr.  Wooden boats are gorgeous.

But not to take the discussion in a dark direction, how important is it that the hull be wood?  I agree the decks, interior, upholstery should all be natural materials.  The stuff you touch.  But couldn't the hull be fiberglass? Riva still seems to be doing well even after converting their hulls to fiberglass.  That's where a ton of maintenance in a traditional wood boat lies.

If aliens landed, how do you explain to them why we would want to make a watertight apparatus out of strips of a material that decays in water?

I agree. There are some boats that have black hull of fiberglass with wood foredecks etc topsides.

Beyond my pocketbook.
So..

My compromise:

All the Mojo of a wood cocktail cruiser with the ease of fiberglass maintenance.

(Funny how a post looking for a windshield morphed into a discussion on the merits/demerits of a wooden boat)

That's a Century Arabian?  Nice interior, no sterndrive maintenance.
Now go a step farther.....separate the fiberglass deck at the rubrail and replace it with a mahogany deck.  How would you like that?

Yeah
I hate stomping on someone's thread...

But hey - you asked the question. :)

This started out as a late 60's Century Cheetah.

No worries, ford-bldr.  I was going to close out this thread anyway now that I got my windshield.

Really a nice deck on that gentlemen's racer!  Well done.  The embodiment of impracticality: seat for the wife, maybe the dog.

I was thinking more like the Correct Craft Paragon.  I guess CC had a customer that wanted the performance of a modern Ski Nautique but had to fit in with their wooden boat collection.  So CC put a wood deck on top of the fiberglass (seems to be a lot of redundant weight that way, why not build a wood deck off line and bond it to the hull at the rubrail?).  A 1997 Paragon is still worth almost $50K.

Not be be confused with the new CC Paragon....name put on a top end wakeboat but no wood.
